The Truth About Taped-On Spoilers?

Okay, so my GT is due in the next couple of weeks, and of course I can't help but to start daydream shopping online for all the available goodies. I plan on going as retro as possible (when I have the $$$, of course), so my 1st thought was a duck tail spoiler. I made sure to get the spoiler delete option so I wouldn't have to worry about any factory holes.

Anyway, I've been looking around, and I'm SHOCKED at the number of spoilers out there that simply stick on with 3M tape! I'm a bit wary of that, since I've never had a Ventvisor that could stay on worth a damn, no matter how well it was prepped.

How well could these possibly work?

Are the ones that use the tape cheap quality, or has this become an acceptable method of attachment?

Do these spoilers generally have accommodations for bolts/screws, or do you HAVE to use the tape??

It always seems sketchy to me as well for a SPOILER or anything with constant force or of significant weight.

I used simple double-sided 3M for my 24V DOHC badges I put on my SHO and doubted them at first. After 4 or 5 years of outdoor exposure (no garage) they still seem rock solid.

So in short... who knows! haha sorry, useless.

As long as it's real 3M with red backing, you'll be fine. That stuff holds for years. just prep both surfaces real well. My quarter window louvers are held on with that stuff, and they see a lot more resistance than a spoiler and they've held just fine.

^what type of louvers are on both of your cars?

But yeah a 3M is GREAT quality stuff. I would not doubt it

On my 2005 I have the Cervini's C series quarter window scoops. On my 2007 I have Silverhorse Racing quarter window replacement louvers.

If you've ever tried to remove one of those products that are held on with tape you'll see just how well there held on. I thought I was going to rip the truck off the hinges before I pulled the stock spoiler off it.

If you tried to remove the stock Ford spoiler with the bolts removed, you wouldn't doubt the power of tape. Similarly when most of these products stick on, there's simply no way of removing them without a tow truck provided they're stuck on properly in the first place.

i have had the ducktail since owning the car, had the spoiler waiting upon delivery.....only 3 sided tape.....no problems......only thing i notice (black) car, is when it gets really hot in summer, spoiler feels abit loose, not fallilng off just loose, but when it cools back down....perfect !
