I change my thermostat o-ring gasket that I bought from auto zone for $6.00.

When I change my thermostat before about 4 months ago with 180* I reused the factory o-ring so it start leaking. The one I change today was round and the factory one was flat on the bottom side of the ring, So does it matter ?
I put some gasket maker to seal the upper thermostat houseing and so far no leeks yayyyyy. Do I have to get flat factory o-ring ?

Some where I read that thermostat have sing saying face radiator side but on my jet 180* thermostat didn't have any marking what should I do ?

One more thing I notice that my hole engine bay smells gas so I am thinking i do have exhaust leaks. what you guys think maby I am loosing power with leak exhaust?

Thanks in adavance

OK, with regards to the thermostat ... I know what you are talking about with the round/flat gaskets. They are both just fine and you don't need gasket maker. My factory gasket was round and the aftermarket thermostat was flat (opposite of your situation) and they both work fine.

As for the engine bay smelling like gas, I'd check and make sure that your fuel injectors are all the way down ... Could have an exhaust leak but you can usually hear an exhaust leak. Kinda sounds raspy.

Hope that helps some.

Just to be sure I am talking about the same thing ... The "flat" o-ring is like sealed around the edge of the thermostat (so to speak) and the "round" o-ring is just on top of the thermostat ... right? If so, you should be fine.

Could you have cracked your intake manifold when you changed t-stats? It is very common to do so...

Is it metal or plastic where the t-stat is on the manifold?
