What thermostate is everyone runnig? Is 160 degrees to cool?

I have 180 and thats IMO is just right. I think your cooling system will be running way too much at 160.

Yea, but it will prolly be harder for it to actually keep it that cool. The fans programmed to come on at 160, it will probably be working alot...think about it, no matter how much the fans run, it will only get down to a certain tamp (maybe 140s at 70MPH) if you were running no T stat, but after that there is just not enough heat transfer to remove any more heat (20* day is a different story). The lower you go, the harder it is for it to cool. The 180 is great, and thats what i am getting. Now the 160 WILL WORK, but in traffic it will still heat up to over 180*+. And thats with the fans blazing full blast. If in really high heat with A/C it will eventually get up to over 200*. Those lower T stats just make it take longer to get there. The stock one is 192 I think, and some people have reported their car getting up to 220* in traffic. It will stop rising after a while and will cap at a certain temp, dependant on the weather.

Okay, thanks for the info. I got the thermostate with my predator tuner. right now, with the fan settings the tuner came with...the fans are almost always on. I would rather change the thermo than the fans so it will stay cooler. just wasn't sure if there was a point it would be too much cooling.

Go with the 180, as the 160 is a bit too cold.

160 is too low, 180 is just right...

The 4.6s are designed to perform within a certain temp range. 160 is to low. I had a 180 put in and re-programmed the fans to come on sooner.

So is it a known fact the 160* will cause the coolant to circulate to much and not stay in the radiator long enough to keep the temps around 170 or 180? And how hot have people seen their coolant get with a 180* in hot weather?

If you run too cold your EEC will not get in to "closed loop" operation. 180 is the lowest you want to go.

Isnt that better for performance because the car is getting more fuel before it goes into closed loop?
