Hey guys, I've gotten a lot of info from you all over the past 6 weeks (thats how long I've owned my 87). But now I'm a little stumped with my e fan upgrade. I'm using a dual fan from a 98' Contour and a relay kit from Summit sum-890014.

Where do I want to mount the thermoswitch???

I'm mechanically inclined but just not very familiar with my 5.0 just yet.

Thanks Toney

One option is to get a t-stat housing from AZ for 10 bucks. It should have a plugged 3/8" NPT fitting in it. Remove the plug and put your fan switch in that location.

drill and tap a 3/8" NPT into the blank well on top the stock thermostat. 19/32" or 9/16" drill and 3/8" Pipe tap.

If the drill & tap thing won't work for you, here is another idea:

Alternate placement for a temp gauge sender or temp switch/temp sensor for an electric fan. Use the heater feed that comes off the intake manifold. Cut the rubber hose that connects the manifold water feed to the heater and splice in a tee adapter for the temp gauge sender. Be sure to use the same water feed line as the ECT sensor. That way you will get the most accurate temp readings.

Tee adapter info:
Make a pilgrimage to your local hardware or home supply center and get some copper pipe and a tee that fits the temp gauge sender. Solder two pieces of copper pipe onto a copper pipe tee with threads in the tee part. Find the correct brass fitting to match the temp sender threads to the tee fitting.

Thanks guys. I just replaced my t-stat housing with one that came with a brass plug in it from AutoZone.

Everything is working like it should.

Thanks again

not trying to steal this thread but i got a kit from jegs thats the single e fan kit and tried hooking it up to the thermoswitch it came with so i didnt need a toggle switch but it wont turn on when its hooked up to it. but once i would touch it with a screw driver it would turn the fan on but it would turn back off when its suppose to with the right temp. does that mean the thermoswitch is bad? i dont like using a toggle switch so if someone could help.... thanks
