Well all last year with my new combo that is a DSS pro-bullit 306 shortblock, thumper ported gt40 heads, tmoss ported exploder lower, TFS1 cam I was fighting some issues that were slowing me down or not letting the car run to its best...

Tried diff tunes, no tune, best run was a 14.1 @100mph with 26* total timing :nonono: . I was very sad...for myself and ALL the HELP I had gotten from everyone...BIG thanks to Thumper and Tmoss for everything though.

Well I just wrote off last year as a shake down summer:(

I got it apart this winter to look deeper...

I wanted to get my 1.7rr installed and check the valve train geo and all that while I was doing this. Now with alot of good advise and help from people here and from Tmoss (yet another thanks :nice: ) I was able to get it sorted out and setup properly.

in the end found I need a 6.150 pushrod...Thats only roughly what .100 SHORTER than stock:shock:

Just want to say thanks...and also say that I hope to get some great numbers this year, even more so for those that helped me with everything.

I dont think/preaty sure the valves were not closing at all last year.

The PR length is basicly the same or at least the same amount off with the 1.6's and the 1.7's.

I hope that is all it is/was. That is a preaty big thing though. Everything else is new or machined fresh was checked. I just put in shims to try to get the stuff correct. I forgot my block deck is also machined, along with my heads that is were the shortness comes from.

hope to run low...low 13's high 12's N/A atleast with 32* total on my small DR...if I could cut a 1.66-1.76 60ft this year I dont think mid 12's would be too far feched'...

Then I am truning on the 150shot....

an...den...maybe the 175....

and see what goes

So how much preload were those putting on the lifters since they were .100 too long? Was the lifter bottoming out at the base of the cam? If so, you DEFINITELY found your problem!! Keep us posted.

I used a solid lifter...well a stock lifter made solid. So I set the adj. to be at 0 lash and then added about .020 to come up with the 6.150...actuall length with 0 was 6.13. So the "new" setup will see about the spec .020.

The lifter I am sure was just held down and not let to pump up properly...They look ok still though, but I want to buy new ones to be safe with such an extreme out of spec. setup it was. I am guessing it also caused a bit of valve float/vavle not being able to be seated from the extra length of the PR.
