Thinking about an electric water pump......any experiance here?

i am also considering use the meziere electric pump. the motor wont need service for 2400hr, i do recomend that you get a hobbs hour meter and install it so you can track the hours the pump runs. as far as upgrading your alternator, you dont need to as the pump only draws 12 amps, but it woldnt be a bad idea either, especially if you are also going to run an electric fan as well. a 3G alt from a 94-95 mustang will do nicely. dont forget to use the relay kit they sell as well. one more thing, while you can install a system to allow the pump to run with the engine off, i dont recomend it as it will draw your battery down, and if it is marginal the you are going looking for someone to give you a jump start.

personally i wouldn't do it, they really aren't intended for driver type vehicles. some people have had ok success with them but i would just use a good high flow aluminum pump like a milodon or flow kooler. the flow kooler would probably be the best bet and they are relatively inexpensive about on par with a NEW stock replacement pump, 65 bucks or so.

i would upgrade your alternator regardless of getting the electric water pump or not. main reason is that nice new mass-flo efi system you'll be running and the accompanying ignition system. BTW are you going to run an MSD type ignition box as well? i would, the 3g alternator is one choice or you can use one of the older GM internally regulated style alternators as well, you can get one of those in the 85 amp range or higher and it looks close enough to stock that most people wouldn't notice, not that it really matters.

that pump is for a serp belt application. Ive installed a few of them on blown 5.0's that needed extra cooling. I would reccomend anyone an electric pump for any type of driving. I had a electric setup for over ten year and never looked back. My new pump is the moroso billet pump but it doesnt have heater hose connection. My car has never ran as cool as it does now. traffic is no problem and keeps cool in the hottest local car cruises......I also have a three row fox radiator, junk yard fan and alt off a 3.8 taurus.

I have a Mez WP 111B on my car that flows 35 gpm. I have a MEZ-WP150B (Summit price $180) replacement electric motor to keep in the trunk in the event the motor dies out on me miles from home. My car sees such limited street time that I think it will take a few years before I ever get to 2400 hours. I upgraded to a PA-Performance 150 amp alt because of all the electrical accessories I am running:

Electric water pump
electric fuel pump
electric vacuum pump for the power brake booster
electric fan
and a booming stereo planned.

I realized I needed the bigger alt when I noticed my lights dimming when the car idled.

However, unless you have a 600+ hp engine, I believe that a 55 gpm pump is overkill. If you send the WP111 to Meziere, they will tap it for you for $30 and add a fitting on the side of the pump of your choosing so you can run a line from the water pump to the heater core.
