Thinking about getting a GT, 2000 or up...

Any common known problems I should know about? Anything to look out for? I own a VW now and they have too many common problems ...just wondering how the reliability of the Stangs are.

Just so you know 99/2000 are just about the same so include 1999 in your search.

No major problems, no expensive problems more importantly. These cars stall, they idle messed up, but they run. They are reliable to get you where you need to go.

well 99-01 have the t-45 tranny. supposedly a weak point. I have had no problems. mid 01-04 have the 3650 tranny. it has better torque rating but more user complaints. There is a head "ticking" issure on some modles so listen close at idle. I have not experinced this. Sometime they will devlope a idling issure but is is easily fixed. I am at 35k no issure yet.

my only complaints.

1. setbelts suck
2. mid ac vents rattle around
3. stock shifter blows (easy fix)
4 suspension could be better. (am upgrading this right now)

Overall I really like my car. my only complaints are minor and I feel you will have those with any car.

99-00 are basically the same. in 01 there is an updated "look" rear spoiler, hood scoop and side vents still basically the same car. any of these years on the used market could be comparable in price depending on milage.

only problem i see with everybodys GT is that your wishlist of crap to buy for them and what brand to buy will give you constant headaches but if your pockets are deep enough to buy this and buy that for it every week , you will be ok , its a little thing called mustang fever , once you own one , you will always want one , so dont buy one if you are committed to it
