So i am thinking about buying a crate motor and swapping out my stock with that instead of pulling my engine apart and boring it out and buying new heads and blah blah blah.

The thing is, i know dick about crate motors and what will work with my car. I also have no idea where to go about finding one. I basically want to go with the biggest engine i can without having to do any extra work to my car (like replacing the rear end). A friend of mine told me to go with a stroker but i have no idea what the hell that even is. His brother use to run an 87 mustang with a 351 in it and it was insanely fast. I am not looking to turn this into a drag car but i want some more power and i want a bad ass sounding engine to ead the way.

Any tips/links?

well it depends on how far you want to go into it. if you dropped something like a 351 in, you would loose all your mods - the catback and maybe your midpipe.. also you would have to change tranny ECU/wiring, driveshaft, get a k member out of a foxbody for the mounting bolts to line up...

but in the end is it worth it? its up to you.. me personally would change to a 347 stroker carbed... but its the $$$ thats holding me back, i tottaly stopped modding on my motor because i feel like a little boy playing with a toy (motor).. i wanna mans motor lol

Staying with a Modular Motor or not?

I really don't know. Which would be easier? I really don't have a set price because i have no idea how expensive this can get.

I know damn well that i do not want to tear out half of my car all for an extra 150 horsepower.

I guess i am looking for something that i can swap out to with ease.

Here are a few suggestions...

a Mach 1 motor, you can usually find one on ebay and I've seen them sold as complete crate motors too

an aluminator block, you can get 2v or 4v and reuse stuff off your current engine at least with the 2v, don't know if 2v stuff would work with 4v

get a built motor from somewhere like DSS, about the same thing as the aluminator but you have allot more options, I believe you can also get a stroked motor, in the modular case that would be stroked out to 5.0

if money is no issue you could get a GT500 crate motor, cost is $15K though but an instant 500 hp

If it were me I'd look at the aluminator or DSS. But for a little less money you could just put a supercharger on your current engine and beef up the suspension. Unless you get super crazy the only thing you want to do on the rear end is change your gears. Also once you start doing all this you will want top beef up that tranny.

If you are looking for big gains then blow yours. Other then that a 4V swap isnt hard at all and you can keep all your driveline stuff. Going to a pushrod will make the car non street legal as it has to be a newer, not older swap to comply with DOT. D.S.S. makes great engines but you will spend 6 gran EASY for an assembled long block with ported heads. Find a nice low mile used 4V and slap it in, you wont regret it.
Now you can make big power with a built 2v as well. There are a few guys on here with over 700 hp, one with 750 ish at the wheels :jaw: but be prepared to drop some coin :nice:

honestly if u just want 150 more hp just go with a supercharger of some sort maybe a 6psi kenne bell, that would get you to you hp and you wouldnt have to change anything out just ad the supercharger, no motor swapping esc.

my 2 pennies anyway

4V swap would be cool, but also a good supercharger kit would get you what you want and like someone else stated you could really leave everything else just the way it is. But we all know once you do one thing to the car, it's never enough. Good luck deciding.

I did the blower thing about 4 years ago. Moter blew up. I went with an Aluminator short block. I got my for $4000 shipped. I don't think any of the builders can touch an aluminumn motor full forged for 4k shipped.

If I didn't ruin my heads, I could have reused everything. And just had to order new dowel pins. Since the alumiumn block hads screw-in dowels for the tensioner arms. But the stock tensioner arms fit on there prefectly. Most of the timing parts I ordered were from a Mach 1. But compairing my old stuff to the Mach stuff. It all looked identicall. So I have 2v heads on the aluminator and hope to have it up soon. Saved about 65lbs off the nose of the car. The short block full assebled only weighs around 125lbs. According to the shipping weight. My buddy and I carried the motor easly.
