Thinking of CHOPPING SPRINGS IN FRONT

I have eibach pro springs which are 1.5" drop. I want the front slightly lower. I was thinking of cutting the dead coil or about 1/2 coil. I want the front approx 1/2" lower. I dont like the dead even stance, looks like the rear is sagging at times.

I dont want to get eibach sportlines because I have the SN95 style shocks and struts and dont want them to bottom out.

What are your opinions on this?

i know somebody who chopped the dead coil on their stock 94 GT springs.....everything worked out fine

i've heard cutting the springs ruins the spring rate

i'd sell the springs and buy different ones

I just want the front lower, like I said I dont want to bottom out my shocks/struts with lower springs.

I cut a 1/2 coil off my old Macs and got a 1/2" drop, that was with OEM struts....never noticed any negative affects...I cut the rears a full coil and got 1"

The most important thing to NOT do when cutting springs is to induce heat. Heat will take the spring out of the steel and change the spring rate to be softer. Cutting the spring without inducing any heat will stiffen the rate at a ratio according to how much is cut, the more you cut, the stiffer it gets.

If you cut them do not use a flame cut, even when using a cut off saw or Roto Zip keep a bucket of water handy to cool the area being cut every few seconds.

I had cut springs in my '92
It works, it definitely does the job, but why cut something you just spent money on getting?
If you want to cut your springs, cut your stock springs and keep your eibach prokits in good shape so if you ever sell your car, you can just pop the eibachs back in without having to tell anyone interested that they're cut.

Whatever you do, I wouldn't cut the eibachs.

The X2 balljoint idea is a good one. That will deffinetly get you a 1/2" that you want. They come with a spacer, and if it is too low, you can use it. If you want it really low, just don't put it in.

Doing this would be a small task, but would prevet you from having to cut your springs. That way, if you ever decide on coil overs, or another set of springs, you could sell the ones you have.

Just a suggestion.

What are some different methods of cutting the springs? I have eibach's too, and was thinking about cutting them, although I wouldn't know how to do it.

Well my FMS C-springs came with instructions that said what end and how much to cut off each spring to get additional drop.

I would go for it. I am still debating on if I want to cut a half to a full coil off my rear springs to level the car out.

i had sportline springs on my black 95 mustang and i always thought the back was lower than the front and i thought it looked stupid...
so when i got sportline springs for my white stang, before i put them on, i chopped on 3/4 of a coil in the front.
this is the result.....

i have driven it only a maybe 20 miles like this and the ride seems to be like it was with regular sportlines on my black stang... i can tell u for sure that the ride was much better than the stock spring ride... much smoother and not so "floaty"

Yea I feel you on that rear being lower than the front with sportlines. My friend has a 00 GT with sportlines, and his rear squats about 1/4" lower than the front, looks kinda gay, lol.

I would use a Roto Zip because it will generate the least amount of heat while cutting and as I stated above, dip the spring in water every few seconds of cutting to keep it cool.

The ball joints are 100 bucks. They require dismanteling the front suspension almost completely. Not hard, just time consuming.

Remove tires, bottom of the strut, end links, calipers, rotors, and the tie rod ends. I rented a tie rod end puller, and it popped both the ball joint off the spindle, and the tie rod end as well. Super easy with that tool.

cutting springs

hey guys whats goin on im new to the 94-95 mustangs but i've had 4 87-93s and a 99 all gts so ive been around them for awhile i just bought a 94 gt.Sorry i just wanted to give you guys a heads up of who i am.
About cutting the spring ive cut a few sets u dont wanna cut to much of the coil maybe about a 1/2 of coil if u cut any more it could be way to low every spring is diffrent so stay on the safe side and take off about a 1/2 coil that should do the trick i used a air cut-off wheel for mine. i also didnt notice much if any diffrence in ride. sorry about the long post.

yeah i used a rotozip on mine....its like a really really small grinder with a realy thin grinding pad...it worked great...took about 10 min to do both....probably less than 10

sweet guys im gonna go for it. my eibach pros seem to do the same thing rear looks lower if anything. how much should i take off so I notice a diffrence? 3/4 a coil?
