Thinking of Switching Intakes but is it worth it?

Isn't that what I tried saying 2 hours ago? lol. They ONLY make a regular R and an R box upper for 351 based engines to go along with the 351 based R lower.
the way i read it, it sounded like you were saying that trick flow doesn't make any intakes for a 351. maybe i missed something ... but it doesn't really matter, it is cleared up now.

Yah I said they dont make a street/track manifold for 351's. Not at all misleading, very simple :) Looks like we're clear :nice:
 
get it on the dyno and see whats up. you should be going faster. how many runs did you get? post up the whole run.

I got in 5 runs total I could have done more but my times were not changing at all so I called it good. The temps were sticky and humid. I wanted to go last night b/c of the much improved weather conditions but the track is closed for resurfacing.

Heres my best run that night.

60' - 2.215

330- 5.960

1/8 - 9.004

MPH - Right lane MPH for the 1/8 was not working.

1000 - 11.567

1/4 - 13.736

MPH - 104.33

All of my previous runs were high 103's. The reason why I thought the car was running out of steam up high is b/c w/ my previous GT I had stock suspension (130,000 miles) no sub frames. Nothing but some bolt ons and a blower to bring it up to 340 RWHP and it has 40 less TQ then the Cobra does now. The best time I ran with the GT was a 12.8 @ 108 MPH with a 1.9 60' time. Im not blaming it all on the track but it did suck that night, no matter how much I cooked the nittos I couldn't get a sub 2.0 60' time and I think the hot humid air probably effected the car but I still feel as though it should have run faster then 104.33. Also the other difference between the GT and Cobra is the GT has 3.55's and the Cobra has 3.27. Also the Cobra has a 95 Cobra R suspension which is much better then the stock system that was on the GT. Im not saying a different intake is my save all to start making this car run like it should but I want to start to narrow it down and decide if getting rid of the cobra is a good option or not. I know it needs to be tunned and Im sure it would love some 3.73's

No matter what people on here say, there is no way that a slightly modified GT-40 intake is going to supply enough air to an AFR 185 headed 351. I had my old grocery getter running faster then you with probably 100 less RWHP and RWTRQ, and about 10 less MPH. I had an off the shelf Street Heat intake, stock cam retarded 4 degrees, and stock heads, with all the bolt-ons and if I do say so myself, a damned fine tune. I never had it dynoed. But for what I had I was comfortable with mid 13 second runs.

Your combo is not matched correctly. You need to make the call, whats more important, aesthetics or performance? You can always save the GT-40 and swap it on for shows. Keep in mind that the Cobra R wasn't intended to run past 6000 RPMs. In fact, the factory fuel shut off was 6000 RPMs. So perhaps that bit of information helps you out... you're running an intake not intended to make it past 6K.

If you want to make the most of that engine, get an intake on there that will take you out to 6500 rpm shift points, and will have you crossing the line at 67-6800 in 4th gear. The R or the Victor EFI would be a good start... I lean towards the Edelbrock part only because it seems like Edelbrock and AFR produce great results. 4.10 gears are a minimum, I'd look at 4.30's.

This is advice to lower your ET... I personally feel that the dyno is useful for tuning purposes and sanity check purposes. Don't get into the habit of trying to correlate dyno performance to ET.

the intake is NOT a problem :rolleyes: the car should be going faster as is. true you can see better results shifting higer with a better flowing intake but that is besides the point. i think you should be in the 110 mph range as is.
 
I was shifting the car at about redline since the power seems to fall off not long after 5,000 RPMS, that was my main concern for why the car was falling on its face in the higher RPM's. I cant remember what my RPM was when going across the line. The runs were done on June 1st. Also keep in mind that I want to put a Vortech S-Trim back on the car in about a yr or so.
