Thinnking of changing 1 '09 GT for another

Simple case of opportunity cost.
Will the utility (happiness) you gain from the metallic for the price be greater than the utility of anything else you can spend that same amount of money on? If so, buy it. If not, don't.

Also, do you plan on selling the car or will it be a keeper? If it's a keeper, then what does it matter how many were made? Further, do you care about the color being unique or the factory paint job being unique? How much would it cost you to get that paint job on your current car? In the end, it all comes back to opportunity cost.

Personally, I wouldn't spend more to change my paintjob. I have an attachment to my GT and, frankly, no other GT can take it's place. If I like another color THAT much, I'll go have mine painted. In the end, if I trade it, it's not the same.

Why don't you go talk to the dealer and see how much money you are going to lose in the deal? I would guess that it will cost you at least a few thousand. That might make it easier for you to decide. I wouldn't worry about the production numbers for the different colors. I don't see these cars being valuable to collectors for a really long time.

I wouldn't swap one for another based on the color alone...unless I REALLY hated the color of mine and REALLY loved the color of the new one. But to trade a car for the exact same car is a bit silly (no offense). You'd be better off if you just upgrade to a newer model with more options.

X2 on this... The mileage delta is only 12k which is really insignificant.. Unless you have been hard on your car and want something a bit more fresh.. Like said above too - weigh the cost vs. smile on your face. Only you can determine what that smile is worth.

Start with "do what makes you happy."

That said, have to agree with others: The statistics you cited are not going to matter to 99.9997% of the world. IF it's important to you (like you're a numbers geek), then that's cool, but the rareness of the color won't make any difference to the rest of the world, either when they see it on the streets, or when it's time to sell. Reality is you're getting rid of a black car to get a silver one. Mileage difference isn't that significant. Is a different color that important?

Other things to consider: (Assuming you bought yours new) you know how your car has been maintained since day one. You don't know how the PO took care of the silver one. Did they drive it like a rental car? Redline it at every shift, or ride the clutch or brake??? How much money are you going to be out to

Personally, given the choice between the two, I'd take a silver car for no other reason than black is too much of a pain in the rear to keep clean, but I'd have made that decision before I bought the black car in the first place.
