This is crazy what the $*#@ did I do?

Well staring at this wiring diagram for my 70,
theres only two places they both come into close contact for this to happen
is the Ign switch, Or
the other is the 4prong plug for the netural switch,
they both have the same color wires red/blue stripe.

remove the start wire from your sol, (left side small one).

turn key to acc and try your wipers.

Did they work?
No. check start wire with v/o meter and check for voltage.
if it has voltage showing then you possably have the wiper plug connected to the netrual switch wire connector at the firewall connections.

not to sound like a worry wart, but I would definantly disconnect the battery while you are not working on the car.

although a good wiring fire would probably fix the problem.

I dont know sqaut about 69's. but did you said you rewired the harness plug on the back of the cluster?

did you mix up the charge guage with the wiper switch?

Sorry it has taken so long, I have been busy getting other things sorted out i kind of phased it out on this problem. Well pa bear I did what you said but didn't have a voltmeter. What happenes was that my car simply wouldn't crank with the twist of the key or the wipers so something is definitely wrong.

Monkey on the 69's i don't think the wipers have anything to do with the guage cluster. Ours has a printed circuit with just a clip and the wires go into that clip they all control guages and lighting nothing to do with wipers I don't think. That has its own pod completely separate from the rest.

O well I figured I will get the car up and running first and do the break in then I will sort this thing out before I go to get it through safety and emissions. I don't want to kill my bearings testing to see if i fixed the problem only to lead to more cranking.

Retrace your steps. You clearly changed something and it didn't do this before.

When you re-wired the lug to the dash, don't you have a tach? Does that circuit feedback? How bout the tranny install? Something with the nuetral safety switch?

Yeah I now have a tach. I have tried pluggin the pigtails with the other ones to bypass the neutral safety switch. I only have one combo that work so I don't think that was it. I need to get a wiring diagram if anyone has one and I will take a look at that and see what doesn't match up.

Hmmmm I must have done something wrong. All my lights work when I turn them on. But now my turn signals stopped working and when I push on the brake one of my brake lights come on and the 2 turn signals come on up front I haven't even messed with these wires. Also when I have the pigtails for the neutral safety switch hooked up and I turn on all my lights my reverse lights come on and stay on. What to do, what to do?!?!?!AHHHHH I WILL NEVER GET THIS THING PAST SAFETY!!!!!!

Here is a site that has the 69 wiring.

The Neutral safety switch and back up lights are on the same connector. It seems you may have inadvertently bypassed the wrong wires. Also check them from the plug all the way to the switch on the transmission to make sure they are not pinched together. (Like between the engine and bell housing?)

As far as the wipers, study the diagrams carefully and see which wires are possibly miss-routed or miss-used.

And definitely get you a Multimeter. It’s hard to troubleshoot without one.

Be patient and good luck.

Another suggestion, while you have the dash out and apart. Replace all the #194 dash bulbs with Sylvania 2825s. They are 5w instead of 3w and much brighter. They can be found at Autozone, among others. Also consider getting the new repro-ed replacement lens kit for the gauges. You won't regret it.

This is an old thread but I figured I will revive it. I have figured out all my wring problems. I got my wipers and such working. Now after going through the wiring diagram, there is no pigtail that hooks to the other pigtail for the neutral safety switch. It looks like it is time to cut and splice some crap together. I also gotta hook my reverse lights up.

There are three pigtails coming out of the firewall, I matched up the wires and now my wipers work again. Two of them connected so the wipers work. Now there was the one single one that the old auto tranny shifter hooked into. There is no other pigtails to work with, I think I need to splice. Problem is I don't know which color wires to cut because two of them are for the back up lights which I am also going to wire up today.

Sorry, I've been busy. If that pigtail is the neutral safety then you should be able to jump the two wires and have the car start. You should have 0 volts from the female with the key in any position except start. At start you should have 12 volts. If you have a multimeter with a continuity testing function then you can 'ring' out the other wire to make sure by connecting one lead to it and the other to the starter solenoid terminal.
