I'll try to keep everyone up to date on my pinto project. I now have the 12 pt cage (thanks to mustanggrn) and the seat, harness, and padding(thanks to the parents). So I've gotten most of the chassis and safety stuff covered.

We are still trying to get set-up to start cutting sheet metal and welding(hopefully tomorrow) the new frame rails.
Here's 2 pictures I took last night after we finished unbolting the last big chunks of metal....ya know, the doors.

Feel free to ask questions and definately lend thoughts and suggestions.

LOL, thats gonna be killer light weight, it may just lift both ends of the car running skinnies on the F&R

woodster: I'm not kidding when I say this:

"You will see a picture of that car heading down the track with those wheel covers at least once."

Yeah if you read the traction thread of TF I think I am sticking with leaf springs for a while. The plan is to set the rear frame and midsection up so I can switch to ladder bars later.

As for weight, I'm shooting for 2000lbs complete with me as it would hit the track. If my deal goes through I'll have the fiberglass front-end, doors, bumpers on before I run it.

We say a prayer everytime we work on the car as it may be the last one I ever get to drive.


Bhuff: When I ran it last time it was dead hook and clicked off a solid 2.8 60' and went 13.88.....in the 1/8th.
I'll just let a little air pressure out next time.

I dropped more weight today.
I picked up my buddy's plasma cutter and I was left alone with it too long. So it doesn't have inner fender wells anymore.

Looking at the second pic you can now see my 351 valve train sitting on the table in the corner.

More pictures.
I've slowed down a little since I'm sick now. But heres a pic of when the crew (1 person) returned from his break. He found me laughing beside a pile of metal.

Here's my bodyguard Jeremiah, who goes to every race and fights off certain people that I have outrun.

Here's a shot of what I'm trying to accomplish by cutting the floor out. I inserted a 2x2 square tube since this car doesn't have a rear subframe. My cage will then be directly mounted to another brace that laterally connects the 2x2 to the rocker panel.

I came into work tonight and seen this Pinto Wagon!!!! it is like turd brown with rust and the weather striping is all toasted but I am trying to find the owner to see what he has in it.

What year is the Pinto?

I like the round headlite years best.

I'm really envious of this project---I have a '79 Cruisin' Wagon & my buddy &
me were gonna put a carbed 5.0 in it & try to fit MustangII front sheetmetal
on it---probably better we never did it

Can't wait to see the finished product.

my pinto is a 77 and it does have the round headlights.

I read your sig. Look on the bright side, your 0-60 is faster than the 1/8th mile time for this car stock.
