FWIW, I think the late model crank has to be machined to use the 2 piece seal..

Sportsman 302 is JUNK, a glorified stock block.

The Mexican blocks have been known to hold 800HP+. If you use the linked bar lifter kit you can use the B-31 cam, bolt pattern on all smblk fords are the same.

They're not an R block, but they're not junk either. I went with a Sportsman for my new 342 combo. You can definately see a difference compared to a stock block. We'll see what kinda numbers it'll hold up to. That's a good thread on the Mexican block. Alot of similarities to the Sportsman I might add.

^^In that thread someone mentioned that a sportsman block has gone 8's....I don't think a stock block has ever done that. Something must be better about it.

Eric I hope you have good luck with yours, I forgot you had one. When talking to some other builders and guys in the industry many have seen them split like a stocker when over 450RWHP. Hell youtr stock block took more then either one of Bills that we broke. E-mail me your phone number when you get a chance Rick91GT@suscom.net let me know what a good time to call, don't want to wake the little one up.

For what ever reason Ford did not build the 302 sportsman as strong as the 351 sportsman.

Yes, I've been fortunate with my stock block. It's got alot of passes and street time on it. I hope I'm that lucky with this one.......I'll get you my #. You can call anytime. Haven't seen you in ages seems like.

Rick clear your pm's.
Ok now I've 100% decided on buying one and need to know what parts are needed and interchangable from a roller. Will the timing chain from a roller work? You said something about a crank for 2 piece rear main? Oil pumps the same? Anything else I'm missing?

Well I'm in school right now and won't be home until 10:30 so tomorrow I'll call before 4. The 732 # was mine. If you call again just ask for Mike.

And yes I'm a cheap ass
