Should I use any sealant along with the gasket? Both TB and EGR. I never have before, but my current car had some blue rtv on it when I pulled it.

What are you all doing?

Thanks

Make sure the mating surfaces are clean, dry, smooth and straight. Gaskets go on dry...

If the old one had RTV on them, I would bet that the mating surfaces are not straight and leak air.

That's kind of what I'm worried about. I didn't see any water leaking, but the water side had rtv too. In addtion, the surfaces were pretty marred. I'm going to use a tiny bead of rtv and hope for the best.

If you have nicks, take some marking dye or even a marker on one side of the EGR and TB and assemble. See where they do not leave marks on the opposing mating surface. You can also lay a small straight edge on the surfaces. Take a piece of emery or very fine sandpaper and smooth out the edges. The gasket should fix any small imperfections really though.

Thanks Mike. I cleaned and sanded as you suggested to a point where the surfaces were pretty damn smooth. I checked it all out with a straight edge and laid everything out on a flat surface and all seemed to be good. So far no noticeable leaks.
