throttle body/intake question

got a 75mm TB and an explorer intake. would the TB be too much or jus right to use with the intake.

if you are going forced induction the bigger the better. IIR there should be enough material that you could open the intake enough to match the TB. hit up Tmoss he is a wizard when it comes to ford intakes.

Tom would be the one to talk with about it.

From my understanding a 75mm TB is not going to be worth while. The area a few inches into the intake is going to be quite a bit smaller than the area of the 75mm TB. It will do not good.

It is not going to hurt you though.

It is very close but you can open it to 77mm. I just did one last week. I will try to get a pic for you.

It will work fine once you open the inlet with a dremel to match.

Matching to the intake opening is nice, but it is not going to help you when the area after that gets smaller and smaller. It is only taking out a disturbence of air.

Use a gasket for the 75mm EGR spacer as a stencil to open up the inlet of the intake with a Dremel or a round metal file. There is enough material on the Explorer intake (I believe) for this minor surgery to make the air flow smoother, and you really should do this to get the best performance out of your combo. Really, the 75mm TB is overkill on a N/A 302, but if you already have it, its not going to hurt WOT performance.

I have a 70mm TB and EGR on my Explorer intake, and it nearly matched the stock opening perfectly. I'd imagine there's plenty of material left for hogging it out to match a 75mm setup.

Holy cow! 75mm on a N/A stang? I have a 70mm BBK throttle body on MY normally aspirated stang and I thought that THAT was cutting it pretty close.

Ideally, a 65mm would be the best with a 75mm MAF.

As stated, not really But what do i know, I've only ran a 75mm tb and an 80mm pro M meter as recommended by my custom cam grinder Ed Curtis @ FTI. But i'm sure you're much more experienced and knowledgeable than he is (lmao)!!

Lmao indeed! Unless this dude has stated that he's got a custom cam and the valvetrain to match it, I'm assuming he's running a fairly stock motor. Why in the world would he run a 75mm TB with an 80mm MAF? That's overkill! Are there N/A applications that call for a 75mm TB and 80mm MAF? Certainly!

But for a nearly stock setup?

I think a 65-70mm TB with a 75mm MAF would do just fine!

If the OP says he's running a bigger stroke (as YOU apparently are), or has any more modifications than I'm aware of, I'll retract my suggestion of TB and MAF width. However, this will be my final response to a ridiculously (and possibly) unending conversation of who's cooler and who knows more about what. Unfortunately, I'm out of high school, so I'll pass.

the OP has made a previous thread regarding his plans for the motor which include boost in the very near future. therefore not planning on mantaining an N/A motor he is looking at a larger TB

No, it was back when I used to have my stock bottom end 302 that those parts were recommended to me by him. Now i'm re-using them on my 347.
