Throttle Linkage Question

So I'm working on our 69 Mach1 today, and long story short, it finally starts for the first time. I'm extremely happy, so I go to rev the engine after its idled for a couple minutes, and the acclerator pedal goes right to the floor.

I crawled under the dash, and the cable that goes through the firewall to the carb linkage is there, but its not connected to the pedal mechanism. There's a hole where the cable obviously is supposed to attach to, but nothing to attach it with. What am I missing, a little clip to attach to the cable after you slip it through the hole? Anyone point me to a pic of what it should look like?

There should be a ball or clamp on the end of the cable that bottoms against the top of the pedal. I don't have a [ic, sorry. You slip the cable into the top of the pedal through the slot in the top, and that weight acts as a stop. Same as in all FOX Mustangs.

It always falls out, it did on me while racing! Wrap it in tape or something to keep it in!

Thanks for the reply. There is a ball on the end of the cable. But the hole on the end of the accelerator rod was way larger than the ball on the cable. The "Mustang Restoration Handbook" shows the cable going through the hole and some kind of clip between the ball and the hole on the lever.

I think a little pinch clamp like you find on bicycle brakes will work, I was hoping to find the correct clip however.

On my 69 COugar there was no clip to hold the cable end on the pedal. The cable had a barrel-shaped piece of metal swaged onto the end. This fit onto the slot on the upper end of the pedal arm, which had curved "fingers" on either side of the slot. The throttle return spring supplied the tension to hold this in place.

Later cars had different arrangements. Some had a plastic clip tht held the cable end in place on the pedal arm. 71-73 Mustangs/Cougars had holes in a plate on the cable end and the pedal arm with a pin and a hitch clip to hold the cable end in place.

Thanks yeloxr7. Maybe I can't see the slot you're talking about and need to get some more light down there. I think chepsk8's post siad the same thing, only I didn't fully "get it" until I read yours.

I'll craw back under the dash tonight and take a look again. Thanks!!!
