Throw out bearing

My throw out bearing is litteraly thrown out it started to grind and not sound good today it didnt whine or anything than all of a sudden start up the car and bam. So can this be done in the drive way? do i need any special tools? i can get some help of my girlsfriends dad who was a mechanic but still does this kind of stuff. any help would be greatly apreciated what would i need other than a new throw out bearing i would do the clutch kit but money is tight real tight.

Take a look at this thread as it's a great writeup on doing a clutch from start to finish. You can ignore the clutch replacement part and focus only on the transmission removal and reinstallation parts, but you may want to remove the bellhousing to have a look around at the clutch anyway. If your throwout bearing is really that bad, it may have galled up the fingers on the pressure plate pretty bad, and it may need replacement depending on how bad the damage. If you're still running the stock aluminum bearing retainer on the transmission, you may want to look into replacing it with a steel one. Part numbers are listed in the link above as well. Thanx a lot now one thing did you guys ever hear of the ram clutch kits are they any good?

I've never personally run one, but I have heard about them before. I believe they have a pretty stiff pedal from what I remember people saying.
