My 03 GT has developed a squeeking sound in the engine compartment. It is not constant, but when it does appear, applying slight pressure to the cluch peddle stops it.

Does this sound like the throw-out bearing? The car has just over 20K miles, so it is still under warranty, does anyone know if this is covered, or does Ford consider this a wear item?

Thanks for your help.

It definately sounds like a TOB. Call your dealer and ask.

They'll replace it, as long as they verify the sound is the TOB.

I had mine replaced at 26k, they had the car for the whole day and about 5k miles later it started to squeak again. I first had to go in to have them check it out, and then come back a week later when the parts came in (after they checked to make sure) before they actually replaced anything.

If you have an aftermarket shifter, now would be a good time to swap your stock one in temporarily just for good measure. I think I had my Tri-Ax in (which is unrelated to the TOB), but it'd suck if you're dealer is a bit more anal about things and won't replace it because you've modified your car.

I'm at 44k now and it's been squeaking ever since, although it is quiet enough that I can live with it and most people don't notice.

Make sure (insist) they actually CHANGE the TOB and not just LUBE it.

Definitely sounds like your TOB. I've had mine replaced twice now and the noise is back again. Just cause it's making noise doesn't mean it's bad. Our 99+ stangs have this inherent problem of noisy throw out bearings. I know several other stang owners with this same problem. Mine is noisier when I first start my car then it will quiet down a little when it's warmed up. I'm not replacing mine again because it will probably come right back, it only took about 700 miles for the noise to reappear the second time it was replaced. I guess when my clutch goes I'll just put an aftermarket clutch and TOB in. My service dept. assured me it will not affect any driveability in my car.
