Has anyone took their car to the dealership yet for the ticking noise coming from the heads. Just curious b/c mine is doing it. And I just wandered what kind of bs the dealer ships are going to be feeding us instead of fixing the ticking sound???

I took mine in back in Oct. of last year. The first dealership i took it to said that they could hear the tick but that they didn't have anything from Ford on what it is and how to fix it.Well my wife cussed them out(she was 7 months preg) and we took it to another dealer and they knew exactly what it was, showed me the TSB and put me in rental. So it just depends on the dealer.

do you have a tsb number? and where was the ticking coming from? I have a ticking noise going on in my car too, but I bought a stethescope and what I found was that I hearing all of the injectors firing sequencially. They make litlle clicking/ticking noises, one right after another. maybe a different noise than you guys were hearing, but curious to see what the dealership said.

i took mine in and ford told me the ticking i was hearing was not the same as the tsb ticking. they told me my ticking is coming from the side of the heads, and the tsb ticking comes from the top, like the intake area. i did only have it on the driver side and they told me not to be supprised if it started on the left. they may have bs me, but i think i did notice it happening on the pass. side too lately, maybe they actually knew what they were talking about for once. car seems to be running fine like this for a year(low miles though) anyway tsb 31604 i think.

How pronounced is the ticking sound? Is it something you really have to listen for or is it one of those totally unmistakable sounds that you can't miss? I don't know if my 02 GT is making the sound or not but I took it in to the dealer a while back and mentioned the TSB. When I got the car back they said it wasn't making any ticking sound and that everything sounded normal. I honestly don't know if it's making the sound or not, I don't really hear anything abnormal.

The ticking sound in mine is prominate when going up hills going real slow in first gear, basically when the car is under a heavy load..I can hear it coming from the diver side at first I though my ProChamber had come lose again. But when I checked it it was as tight as it could be.. That is why I think the ticking sound I hear mayb ethe one the recall is talking about..

My ticking sound was loud....you could hear it from about when standing about 50 yards from the car.The dealer replaced my heads and i have not had a problem since then. The first dealer i took the car to told that the noice was normal for Saleens.....i don't even have a Saleen, just the body kit.The guy who told me this was supposed to be the shop forman.Well needless to say he got cussed out by the wife. Also this same dealeship had a story done about them on Dateline a few months later. And it wasn't good.

sounds like what they call Valve Adjusters. They are basicly the replacements for Lifters in OHV motors. I had one go bad on my in my 99. I jsut replaced all of them on that head to be safe. Took about 1.5 hours and I had to get a $60 valve spring commpressor so I could do it without removing the cam

Do you know if the TSB was for 6cylinder mustangs too? Mine is a 2001 v6 and it has been making a ticking noise too. It runs fine but the noise is annoying and I only have 40k miles on it. Also, is the TSB only for the first 36k miles or would I still be able to get it done with 40k?

Easiest way to know if you have the tick... drive by a wall, or a guard rail... Does anything come out of the consumers pockets when fixing a TSB?
It's all starting to come together now.... The hesitation with the starting, and the engine ticking... Hmmmmmmm... my next day off is Wed... Ford Service Dept. here I come!

The adjusters are about 8-10 each (8 per head) I have no idea what they charge for labor, but if it is over 3 hours they are rapping you

my tap comes from the rear pass side..

i knew there was TSB for piston slap and other head problems.. but really didnt want to deal with it.. i went throught HELL getting my tranny fixed.. thought **** it.. need a new motor anyway.. ill just want tell see passes

before i read this post i had thought it was the valve not getting oil.. but from what i remember mine does it in the morning and after drive for a while and then let it idle..
it bothers me yet it doesnt.. The only thing i hate about it is, that it makes my car sound like a POS..
