ticking sound?

Well lately when iv been driving around iv been hearing a ticking sound. If i have the clutch in and i rev the engine it sounds fine. If i dont have the clutch in though tick tick tick. Also if in driving and i just put in the clutch a inch the sound will go away( I'm not driving around with it partly in i was just seeing if it would make a difference). I'm no car wis but it sounds like something to do with the clutch cable. I hope its just a minor repair because its bugging the hell out of me, i don't have any tools or way to access tools to fix it so i would have to take it in. How much do you think it would put me back?

Also i had the clutch replaced about a year and a bit ago would they have broke the tensioner?

As the others have suggested, checking the plugs is always a good idea whenever you hear a "tick" with these engines. Ticking may be a sign that a plug has backed out to the point combustion pressure is leaking past the threads meaning it's millimeters from blowing out.

Re the above quote: Are you maintaining the same level of throttle/load when you slightly depress the clutch pedal?

yes i am retaining and it doesnt matter the throttle as soon as i take the clutch out the ticking noise starts and as i said i can rev the engine up with the clutch in and theres no noise. I hope its just the plugs atleast i can do those myself.

Normally whenever someone asks about a ticking sound from the engine bay, my response is like the others, "torque the spark plugs!".

The post does not state if the frequency of the tick is related to RPM's. IE, the tick gets faster as the RPM's get greater.

In this case, if you are positive that the noise is directly affected by the clutch pedal pressure, then it has to be a clutch fork or throw out bearing problem. Have you considered taking it back to where the original work was done?

i would but i had a little falling out with them when they tried to charge me $50 labour for putting in some transmission fluid.

I also say that you need to check the plugs. My "tick" sounded like an exhaust leak, so I didn't mess with it. I had one blow out a week or so later. I could have prevented it if I had checked the plugs. I fixed it myself, but that wasn't too fun. At least the one that blew was in a good place.
