Tight Clutch/Cable

Recently bought a 91 notch the clutch pedal is so tight I feel like Im trying to leg press 700 pounds...Ive never had to put so much force on a clutch pedal to get it to disengage....I mean when I get it pushed down it shifts fine and doesnt grind or anything. Could it just be a clutch cable that isnt sliding like it should or the clutch itself?

In my and my friends' experience that usually means the cable is frayed and needs to be replaced

Take it off and check it.

..... when you do replace it just go with a Ford OEM stock cable, none of that adjustable stuff...and make sure you get a firewall adjuster and clutch quadrant if you do not already have it, will make it much easier for you to adjust.

Check the alignment of the cable from the quadrant to the firewall. Make sure it isnt like a water skiier way off to the side of a boat.

You can disco the cable and run it through the sheath to see if it feels abrasive or hangs up. That said, I agree that a new cable should do you well. Jrichker and I are amongst the only two folks (apparently) whom like(d) our Ford adjustable cables. Just another possible option.

Me too...I like the stock OEM ford cable and quadrant...just wish they made an adjustable quadrant from something other than plastic. I put in a new cable and quadrant....works pretty good.

Anyway, check the cable's routing. If that isn't it, it could be the aluminum bearing retainer is galling up. I had to install a new T-5 and it came with the newer steel bearing retainer.

Everthing said so far sounds good and i would try that first. But i would count out the clutch being bad to. I seen a spec stage 2 feel like that and the next week blowed apart.

Make sure when you get the OEM Ford cable and FW adjuster, you can pick up a multi-hook UPR or something similar. This will save you from the plastic quadrant. I just had the same problem and the cable was my issue. Hopefully that is yours. Good Luck!

i bought a nice frpp cable, its adjustable and works perfect never given me any problems.
