What am I looking for when checking into this?
I was able to ratchet it up and down to increase hold but it seems to be to loose now.

The only adjustment you have is by adjusting the rear shoes, if that doesnt work then the cables are probably stretched.

If the cable is stretched, can I replace it without going into the drums?

No, as the rear part of the cable is attached to the brake shoe.

I've seen where I may be able to turn the cylinder with a screwdriver to adjust the shoes outward some. Does the parking cable control both drums or just one side??

The cable has kind of a "splitter" under the car that puts one cable to each drum. You'll see it when you are under there.

First thing i'd do is take the top panel on the console off and see if the auto adjustment on the e-brake is all the way tight. This is the toothed part of the handle that people weld during rear disk conversions. If it's fully tight, it could suggest that the cables have stretched and should be replaced.

My parking brake wasn't working so I pulled the drums and found the parking brake cable wasn't attached to the secondary shoes. Hooking them up and adjusting them properly gave me a nice firm e-brake.

so from my research, it looks like 1 small cable from the handle to the spliter, then 2 long cables to the drums. Trying to find a pic of where it actually connects to the e-brake so I can compare to mine, anyone got one??

so while at work i was able to find a video of a guy doing his swap of the short cable, have a better idea of what it looks like now.

Edit: ran out to the car an inspeted where the cable is suppose to be inside the groove of that pulley, ....it's not there ...lol

buying a part soon....

IIRC the Center Cable and Equalizer are 1 piece.

So I got it fixed, ....turns out the cable was not broken but the pully teeth had turned too far forward. So I used a screwdriver to ratchet it backwards. Here are the pics of what I did. It was turned all the way forward where I could not even see the cable, i just thought it broke.

I'm just glad I can return that part too!! I thought I'd look underneath to see if the cable was hanging and it looked connected, so I dove into the "remove console lid inspection" and seen it was still on but loose. If it ever seems to get loose again I believe I can just reach it with a screwdriver again with the lid on and lever it from the valley.
