Tilt steering

I have a Flaming River tilt steering column installed in my 65 Fastback.
When the wheel is tilted in the highest up position it hits the dashpad..
I called Flaming River and they told me that this is possible with certain steering wheels!!
I have a Momo steering wheel (new). So I guess I need to look at different steering wheels or possibly alter my dashpad???

What size (diameter) is your wheel, and how deep is the dish ( from the center mounting flange to the wheel itself)? I might end up with this problem also, but until I install mine I won't know. Mine is a 14"

Damn..
It would have been nice if Flaming River would have shared this potential problem with me up front!
The current steering wheel is a 14" wheel.
And it hits the dash pad in the full up tilt position. I like the feel of the current location so I really do not want to move the steering wheel any closer to me (the driver).
I don't have the car here now so I cannot measure how deep of a dish the steering wheel has. It seems to be fairly standard. Most steering wheels I have looked at have a similar offset. .
I am going to be replacing the steering wheel with A Budnik stilleto. I like the look better and the car already has Budnik M5 wheels.
(For some reason I like the wheels to match the steering wheel)
I am looking into reducing the overhang of the dash pad on both sides about 1 1/2 to 2". And then recovering it in a fake leather.
Has anyone done this?
Thoughts?
Thanks,
Scott
