Time chain guides broke!!

another repair for the stang Has this happened to anyone else on here or is it just me?

Should have it back up and running by the end of the weekend.

There was chucks of it were everywhere and the chain had no tension. Guess 120,000+ miles and 14lbs of boost will do that

Happened to me! Appeared that my plastic guides failed which allowed the chain to BREAK! I ended up slapping pistons back in my 1998

I could hear the engine tick on cold mornings until it got to temperature and eventually decided the guides were getting a bit loose, causing the chain slap. I replaced them and saw some moderate wear on the guides, but nothing too terrible. They had ~175k miles at that time.

At least it is fixable. When it rains, it usually pours. Anybody make stronger chains for 2v's?

I still need to check the compression, but the vac on the car has not dropped. So im hoping all is well.

I know right!? Clutch, intake, rearend and now this! Im guessing the trans is next?

I had the passenger side timing chain guide break on mine but I didn't realize it until I tore into the engine after it seized... The guide broke up and was chewed into little bits which clogged the oil pickup. Apparently, the pickup tube got clogged, oil pressure dropped to 0, and the engine seized before I got it shutdown. The car had 112k miles on it when that happened.

I am in the process of doing a Mach 1 swap now.

i had my timing chain eat through the metal wall beside it sending little metal pieces flying around my engine and taking out my main bearing. Had a really bad ticking sound from this when the engine warmed up.

Burns said thats how one his 2 valves met its end.
This inevitable for any engine with timechain/timing chains. If I didn't drop a bolt into my combustion chamber my timing chain would have done the same thing.
At least you know to replace the guides, tensioners, and chains when that slapping noise comes back. Sucks finding things out the hard way, now you are smarter, at least if the situation comes back. Hopefully you havn't bent any valves.

Make sure you get into the oil pan and retrieve any bits and pieces from in there and in the oil pick-up too...

Installed all new parts, compression test came out ok, no bent valves! Car drives well, will post pics soon.
