when replacing the timing chain, do you have to remove the oil pan as well, or are you able to slide the timing cover back in? i've been looking at some parts and i really do not want to do the oil pan right now, i hope this is not the case, thanks for any input gentlmen/ladies of StangNet!!

Vadim.

You can change the timing chain without removing the oil pan, but you have to do some hacking of the gaskets and put in the repair gasket that usually comes with the timing cover gasket set.

agreed, no need to remove the pan but be damn sure to cover the opening when scraping the old gaskets and chit. Don't want that stuff to get into ur oil pump or u'll have a whole new list of problems. Use plenty of rtv when putting the repair gasket in. mainly in the corners.
