well my 2nd gear syncro has been gone for awhile but i could still slam it into gear at high rpms. Well not anymore. I was out playing last night in it and there is no way to get it into 2nd gear.It just grinds. Tried a few times with no luck. So, i guess its time to do something. Should i rebulid or get something new? Are there anygood rebuild kits out there? I really dont want to spend alot of money but i want something a little stronger than stock. Just need opinions here.

Well, you are going to need to replace 2nd gear and the 1-2 slider now in addition to the basic rebuild kit.

You are looking at about $150 for the rebuild kit plus $80 each for the 2nd gear and 1-2 synchro.

Had you rebuilt it when it first started to grind you could have saved 2nd gear, but bashing it in like that has most likely destroyed the engaging teeth by now.

i know i shouldnt have been beating on it, but its not my dailt driver, and i bought it knowing it had tranny problems. So i knew this day would come. Im just wanting opinions on the best way to go from here.

Do you think you could rebuild it yourself?

Assuming nothing else is wrong, you could just go the VERY cheap way and buy a 2nd gear blocking ring ($25), get a aftermarket 1-2 slider off ebay for $35 new and an aftermarket 2nd gear new off ebay for about $40 new and slap it all in.

Or you could do a full rebuild with a complete kit, but you'll still need to replace the slider and 2nd gear.

Up to you, i have written TONS of info on tranny rebuilds if you want to do a search of my name either here or on www.corral.net.
