Time for a valve job? Going for reliability here

My car has 150,000 miles on it and I'm thinking it's time for an overhaul.
What would be some parts to bolt in under them valve covers? Lifters? RR's? Pushrods? It's my daily driver and I'm just trying to keep it in good shape.
I hear some knocking coming from the passenger side valve cover in the mornings - granted I don't know for sure what it is, but I'd like to replace, if not upgrade some necessary parts here.
I'm not ready for a complete rebuild as I'm still a newbie, and couldn't live without my car for weeks or months after I break something. :p
What would you guys recommend for me and how hard of a job is it? I've done everything in my sig in my driveway if that helps. :D

Thanks everybody!

At 150k I would be going easy on it....just replace whats needed..to bad you didn't go this route when you had the intake off... :bang:
new lifters/pushrods/rockers wouldn't be a whole bunch of money...but would freshen it up...
If its not using excessive oil, then you should be ok with just the above??? Shop the classifieds and you can find a low mile stocker, someones parting out, and get a good deal to boot...

Yeah, I'm wishing I had planned this out, but I did the intake over a year ago so I'm okay with ripping it off again. :)

Do you have any suggestions for replacement parts to use? Should I bother getting some aftermarkets or just get stock replacement lifters/pushrods/rockers.
Also is there anything special I need to do this job, or just time? Remove intake and valve covers, and just dig in? I'd just like to replace everything while I'm in there as I don't want to do it again. :D

you mentioned its your daily, and all you wanna do is keep it running good...for that reason I would stay stock parts, for your lifters/PRs...a decent set of RRs won't do any harm, just a little easier on the valvetrain...guess it depends on what you wanna spend???

Rip the u/l off and your there...remove the lifter retainer (spider) and the (dogbones) holding the lifters....replace the lifters...reassy the above, drop the new PRs in....put the rockers on....adjust the valves....done....its an afternoon job since youv'e done the intake before...nothing funky for tools either....

if you haven't adjust valves before...then your gonna learn that real quick.. :D Its not really all that hard to do the valves...just take your time...

Sounds like a plan :)
Just one last question - Are there some RRs to stay away from that won't clear my stock valve covers? Money-wise I'm up for $500 in parts so if that can get me the best then I'm willing.

On the VCs, someone will have to answer that one..I run tall VCs so its not an issue for me...

FRPP lifters/PRs can be had for less than 200.00 ..I just put new ones in my motor....Is it Comp Cams the recently can out with some Alum RRs for stock replacments??? but they're pricey, as are most.......Hit the classifieds for the RRs...there in there all the time...just get your VC fitting answer first....

Okay I think I've got my list put together... I still have another month if not more until I order anything so there's still plenty of time for change, but here's what I'm looking at.
FMS-M6500R302 - FRPP Lifter - $120
FMS-M-6565-L302 - FRPP Pushrods, 6.272" - $45
CRN-44746-16 - Crane Cobra/Energizer 1.7 pedestal RR's - $185

These are all part numbers and prices from summit, if I don't find anything in the classifed's next month then I'll probably order from summit.

Does anybout have any thoughts on replacing my valve springs? I'm guessing they're pretty tired after 150K and I know for a fact the previous owner (I bought at 137k) was not kind to my car. :(
Maybe stock replacements? or something with a little more boing?
Maybe these - CRN-44308-1
:p
