Time to clean

Ok yall I have a 90 gt and im wanting to clean the engine and everything around it. Is there a certain degreaser or cleaner that anyone can suggest for me to clean with. I just wanna spray and wash if possible. Thanks for any suggestions.

the generic autozone brand degreaser is nice and cheaper than the rest. Works good forme. Also a nice touch is to use a rubber protector/ shine agent on all the rubber, like tire wet or something, makes it nice and shiny:nice:

I have always gone to the car wash (preferably when its not busy) take some simple green (pre-dilute the stuff 50/50 with water)

cover everything that doesnt need to get water on it, spray the simple green mixture, let it sit for a while, then take the hose, and power wash the stuff off (depending on how dirty your car is, and reapply as needed)

dont let the simple green stay on too long, or it will turn your hoses and anything rubber different colors.

Greased Lightning....I swear by this stuff. Purple bottle...cleans EVERYTHING DIRTY!!! I used it on my carpet, and I no long need new stuff. I also used it under the hood...and the motor now looks like I just painted everything. I then shine it up with F21 Turtle Wax vinal protect.

This is exactly what I do and it works great. Diluting your degreaser is optional depending on how dirty your engine is. If you clean the engine while it's warm (warm... not hot) the grime will come off a lot easier.

I've used the Greased Lightning too, their original one as well as the Orange Blast. Both are great. I'd say the original version is maybe a little bit more powerful as a degreaser, but the Orange Blast is almost as strong, and it smells good and can be diluted and used on your interior plastic and vinyl. I use either one on my tires and for 90% of the cleaning around my house. Both are under $3 a bottle at Lowes or WalMart, great stuff.

As far as what to cover I'd say definately the alternator and the distributor. Can anyone add anything else?

I cant believe I found this post. If you were to look at my past posts I swear I posted the EXACT same thing about a month ago... crazy.. glad I am not the only one. I have a detailing business and this is my key product for everything you listed.. Love the greased lightning..:nice:

Thanks yall I went and bout some Greased lightning last night. WOW it really does work good. I got my bottle at autozone and i think it was like 3.97 or something like that.

Heck yeah, and the bottle is HUGE too!! Mine lasted me all summer!! I used it on multiple cars!! It is super concentrated also, so you don't need very much....they also suggest on the bottle....that you dilute it with water if needed.

Oh, and if any of you dirtbike....this stuff is a miracle!! Both my bikes are like brand new after using it.

I use Castrol Purple Degreaser and it works good for me. Then I apply some protectant to make everything shiny. I always keep the alternator covered during the wash and shining process though. Keeping protectant off the belts is a good idea too.

Lmao....I went to shine everything up tonight cuz I cleaned it last night. So I hop in to take it for a spin around the block and I hear bam.... I was like holy.....I popped the hood and I had left the plastic bag and the towel over the alternator. Yeah torch me i deserve it after at that lol It took me an 1hr to cut away the towel just so i could get the belt off. FLAME ON!!!

No flaming Bro....We have all done stupid stuff like that. I'll even give you an example.

I had louvers on my S-10 way back in 1988 and I had taken them off to clean. I laid them down at the edge of the garage. Forgot they were there and shut the garage door on them. This was before those remote sensors and they were smashed to pieces.
