+ You don't get the nifty dual snorkel hood or the vertical tail lights with the early SN95 Cobra's.

I personally think for such a small difference in price between the two cars, you're making a mistake letting the DOHC engine intimidate you out of buying one. These engines will last as long, if not longer than any 302 OHV on the road and are smoother running and knock down better mileage to boot. Its true that hop up parts are slightly more expensive with the 4.6L, but you make that much more power bolt on for bolt on in comparison to parts on an early SN95 5.0L.

Still your choice of course, but you're not really posting a valid reason for making the one you are IMO?

i understand what you're saying, and i wouldn't disagree with you. I just know that with my minimal funds (due to college) the 302 would be my best bet IF anything were to happen. i also like to have an idea of where to start, too, if say i wanted to tear into the engine further down the road. i would not be content leaving the 4v the way it is and just adding a blower (at the most) and if i would tear into it, i would be in foreign territory. there are a lot of 4 valve cars out there (especially in my area) who do the same thing and do not tear into the engine, and i dont wanna be like every cobra out there with minimal bolt ons and maybe a blower down the road. i also want a unique car and the 5.0 cobras are getting harder to come by. (even though I may get shunned by some for this) i already have vertical taillights on the way, and the hood on the car is an RR, which happens to be my favorite hood on an sn. i also have the rear bumper from a 94-98 at my buddy's custom body shop, i know mod for mod the 4v may be superior to the 5.0, but so is the price of everything. i understand many of you guys are fans of the 4v, and it is a great engine that i also like and am fascinated by, i just think for my preferences now this is the best way to go. plus i'm getting a fair price, too for this and that that i pointed out on the pics to drop the price i appreciate everybody givin me their perspective.

I agree, I would have gone 4.6...

Also mid 400 to the tire out of a blown 4V, by the time you outgrow that, you should know enough about the motors to feel fine diving into everything.

Trying to be "unique" with a Mustang... good luck!

maybe not "unique" but atleast one of the rarities. and maybe i have not expressed how low funds are lol when i get my 95 snake the mods will definitely be over time...not the day after i get it. and my brother, who drove a 99 cobra for a while (to date the most beautiful cobra i've ever seen) mentioned that if he had to do it all over again he would have taken the difference in $$ between a 99 cobra and a 95 gt and put it towards the 95. and the cobra (my brother being an exceptional driver) ran a 12.9X in the 1/4, and his next mustang, a 94 gt with the combo mentioned above (afr 165s/ rpm performer/ custom cam) ran a 12.7 on street tires...so for the dollar i can spend Now, i'm sticking with the 5.0. After my schooling is done, no doubt i will want to eye up some 32v's, are there any 5.0 lovers out there who agree with me ??

sounds like you got your mind made up about the 95. drive the wheels off it and dont look back. being in college I cant say I would agree about daily driving a H/C/I 5.0. most of the ones I have seen took quite a bit of upkeep, but you sound like you are familiar with this car sooooo that being said...go for the gusto

thanks...the school is only fifteen minutes from my house, and as far as getting around on campus, all the buildings are close enough to walk and be there in 2 minutes, so i thought it wouldn't be too bad. the other thing i wanted was a sick sounding idle and nothing against the 96-8s but the 5.0 idles (with the right cam) are second to none.

A cammed 4.6... The exhaust note trumps the 5.0s, and the ones I have heard with cams, sound great as well!!! Also the cams are very easy to get to vs the 5.0...

well then we must have heard different 4.6s because unless it was a huge cam, i havent heard any 4.6 4v that sounds like anything other than being under water. which isnt a bad thing either, i like the sound. just don't think it holds a candle to a 5.0 idle. and you said camS with an S...those 3 other cams add a little more $ too

The cams would be more money, but at the same time, are not needed. Stockers would make as much power as you could handle. If your using a cam for sound, it will cost more, but more accessable than having to take the whole motor apart to do them.

We must have heard different ones, they sound awesome to me.

Yes I own a fox, but I have thought about getting a 4V... Actually almost had a 4v to toss in the fox... Still might do that some day!

that'd be a badass idea to throw a 4v in a fox. ideally i would do that to my notch, but i don't have the time nor the funds now, and need something to drive everyday. i've heard an 03 with comp cams, but from what i know they have to be HUGE in order to give that badass race-sounding idle...and you're right, a stock cam in the 4v would be enough for me. i'll have a 4v one day, for sure...

i also was gonna go that rout, but i wanted as much weight savings as possible and i think the termi motor would just add too much weight to the front end, but i WILL have a 4V in a fox some day, a TT 6.0L Powerstroke

i think i will be happy with it especially with the interior and a/c not to mention it's a speed upgrade to the notch...

I was relating the comfort and handling to a fox, not a 96+ car. Comfort wise the 94/95 is the same as the 96-98 when discussing just the way the interior feels, but yes the ride and handling of the 96+ is slightly better.

Please oh please get that wing off of that cobra...and consider upgrading to the slightly sleeker 96+ side skirts, those 95 style really stand out.

As for a 4V 4.6, stock they do burble like they are underwater and I hate that tinny idle they have, but at WOT they sound amazing. Cammed up, forget it...absolutely sick. It is possible, though, to eliminate that burbly tinny sound with the right exhaust setup even on a stock car.

okay, i never updated this thread. sold the notch last weekend, i've had it since i was 17 and it was my first real "fast" car. i never thought it would be so hard to watch somebody else drive it down the road! for a second i wondered if i should've, but then realized with no heat and no a/c, it was time. anybody else out there have a ridiculously hard time letting go of their first one?

Yes, that;s why I kept it.

My '88 is my first car. It became way too uncomfortable to daily drive. Instead of selling it, i parked it in a relatives garage and bought a new '03 GT.

After a while...i sold the '03GT and bought a normal car. I'm glad i kept the fox cuz 2-3 months later i got the bug HARD and pulled my old fox out and got it back together and driving!

I'll never sell it. If i want another Mustang...i'll just buy another in addition to it
