All right guys I advanced my timing to 14 degrees. My neighbor has a timing light and he is a mechanic and he showed me how to do it, but he also warned me that it will run hot and might burn a piston.

But my question is this: it seems most people have there stock 5.0 set to 14 degrees, that is where it is now. Well at WOT it pings, but you let off just a hair and it stops. Should I set it lower, or wait until I get 93 octane in the tank and see if it still pings??? Will normal daily driving, (less than 3000 rpm) cause any damage until I can fill the tank with 93 octane gas?

Also I have a gear question. With a stock motor and 3.90 gears, what rpm's are you getting at 75mph highway driving? It seems like gears make the most difference with a stock setup, but I don't want to be pulling 3000 rpm doing 55 mph going to the grocery store.

Still new here so help me out guys. Also, I'm looking to buy new intake, exhaust, and cobra clear headlights. So if anyone is selling, or you know where I can get these cheap, let me know.

When you advance the timing, you're going to have to run a higher octane gas. As long as its not pinging when you drive around town you should be fine until you get some 93 in it. As for the gears you should be around 2800rpm doing 70mph (or is it 80mph)

Man, you guys are fast. 2 responses already! Thanks for the replys, but more specific, which exhaust setup is the preferred, and which intake is preferred by most.

wystang, I see you have the 3.73's. Do you think that would make a big enough difference to make it worth changing from 3.27's (stock?) to 3.73's or should I go to 3.90's or 4.10's? All this car will be doing is going to the beach and getting groceries for the wife, but when I get in it, Daytona 500 baby! The speed limit maybe 55 but there ain't no limit on how fast I can get to 55, right guys! Help me out here guys. Plus I got that macho thing when some one pulls next to me at a light and their lane ends 500 ft ahead. You planning on getting ahead of me?, not today sonny.

I went from 2.something I can't remember what the stock gear was in mine, but the 3.73 made a world of difference in my car. If the car is going to be a grocery getter than 4.10 may work just fine for you. traction will be an issue keep that in mind. You will have a nice jump on who ever it is your racing with the 4.10 inside :nice: if you can get the traction you need. Your 1st gear is going to be be pretty much worthless when you take off hard you will redline pretty fast. Trust me you will have a blast with steeper gears :D

Allright guys, last question of the night. I noticed that my plugs were probably the stock plugs. What should I replace them with, factory motorcraft, or something better?

Thanks again.

Put a 4.88 or a 5.14 in it :nice:. Talk about stop light monster :D.

On a more serious note, just get a 4.10. You will get a 3.73 and want more, and unless you have another 500 bucks to shell out, you're SOL.
