We swapped came out today and everything was ok except we ran into an issue. The bottom timing chain gear won't come completely off. It slides about half way. Can anyone gives us a trick on getting this off? It seems the front is a bit swollen I think. Never ran into this before. Usually the balanced is the pain but it came off in seconds.

Oops, posted in wrong section, meant tech. Posting from my phone and didn't realize.

Also, what's the torque number on the cam thrust bearing? The Haynes manual does not specify and I cannot remember from the last time I did a cam swap which was 2002 (I'm rusty).

You could try a little emory cloth on the crank, to see if it cleans it up a touch and lets you pull the gear off. Aside from that it'll need a bit of persuasion with a puller like Mike said.

I've seen that before. The nose of the crank is actually fairly soft, and can be deformed easily if someone hammered on a balancer, or overtorqued one. Just take a small file, and file off the high spots on the crank until it slides off easily. It's a tedious process, but it will guarantee you don't damage things any farther. Forcing it off with a puller can damage the gear. Advance and Autozone rent a balancer install tool now for free which I strongly recommend using.
