timing chain verses timing gear

The quiet ones aren't too quite. It's like ordering a SC trim vortech... The important thing to note is that there is less engine vibration transfered to the cam via a chain vs. the gear sets. Less chance of component failure.

ill be honest. i really wouldnt use a gear drive. i just experienced one going to hell in a 302 and the crank gear teeth were just about gone before i noticed the noise and timing jumping around severely. it was wasted bad. ive heard that they also take a lot of hp away because of friction. i think chain would definitely be the safest method. :flag:

on the point of the hp I'm have a few ponys to give up anyways. But all the people I have talked to said thier just as good as a chain

you said it best, just as good as a chain, why spend more money on something thats gonna be "just as good"??just my opinion but id go with the chain, most gear sets will have to be machined for fit on top of the initial purchase id do a lot of research before spending the money on it man.and as previously stated the noise interferes with the ability to diognose problems on top of the fact i think it would become rather annoying after a month or two.now if it added 20 h.p .......

They sound cool until it's time to find a lifter tick on your motor... They are very noisy. Stick with a good quality timing chain to get the job done.

I agree, I have the Eddy Accudrive timing gears in mine. I got them for free and they were like new so i used them. Honestly they sound cool and all, (had like 6 people ask me "what kinda blower u got?" lol) but next time I rip the motor down im putting in a nice chain set...the gears are just too much racket, especially with the hood open and trying to listen for ticky rocker, vacuum leak etc. Maybe for a weekend warrior but I dont like it in my daily driver

yea but its going in the cobra and it only has 29k on it so its going to be a never day driver and I spend more time in the middle east then I got time to drive.

the point of of hp and maching it, I don't think that matter on because it the same has a chain just no slack in the middle of the cam and crank. but thats just me again.
