I'm rebuilding my 302 and have come across something i just do not understand. The timing cover that came off is different than the one i ordered from latemodelrestoration.com but it said it was for 5.0 w/efi. I don't understand the difference in a standard rotation and a reverse rotation waterpump. I just want to make sure i install the right timing cover along with the right water pump and make sure everything spins in the right dirrection. The only thing that will be missing will be the smog pump so everything will be routed pretty much the same.

this is the part# that i ordered ( LRS-6019B )

this is the type that i took off the engine, Part# M6059D351

Can someone tell me the difference and if it matters which one i use and what is the best waterpump to go with either standard or reverse rotation

If you are using the accessories from a fuel injected 5.0l engine, you will want to go with the reverse rotation waterpump. It has to do with the way the belt is rounted. As far as your timing cover question, the top cover is for fuel injected 5.0l's the bottom picture looks to be for the older 302's with the block mounted fuel pump. Also the oil dip-stick is installed in the timing cover on the older 302's. You can see the spot on the timing cover just above the bottom left bolt hole.

your just being paranoid. Just buy the fms waterpump for the 5.0 mustang and your straight. It tells you right in the online catalog. I dont even think they sell an explorer waterpump
