Timing help

Got my engine back in today but I think the timing is off. It wont start. We tried putting straw in #1 and paper trying to find TDC . You cant see any mark on wheel to match up, but there is a really big gash/ cut mark there is this a timing mark? Its pretty big and deep. Yall know any ways to set my timing? TIA Also do you know how to get idle screw? where its suppose to be

That gash should be your timing mark. You may need to take a valve cover off to make sure it's on the right stroke. Needs to be at TDC after the intake valve closes.

When you do get it to start, you have to pull the spout connector to be able to adjust the timing to 10*BTDC. Actually just pull the spout now and try to start it again.

Easier way to find the correct tdc

Slug comes up 2 times in a 4 stroke motor ... Right
1 the exhaust stroke
2 the compression stroke

2 is the one you want :Word:

You put your finger over the #1 hole to see if air is being pushed out

Air will be felt cause both valves are closed to allow the compression
to be built

If you're on the exhaust stroke ... of course ... e valve would be open

Is it getting spark and fuel? Are the plug wires on right? Does it try to run at all?

If there are no other issues with the vehicle and it's just a timing/dizzy issue, you might be 180* out.
