TIMING HMMM?

I HOPE SOMEBODY CAN HELP ME, I WAS CHECKING THE TIMING ON MY CAR, WHEN I PULLED SPOUT TIMING WAS CORRECT, THEN I PUT SPOUT BACK IN AND TIMING WAS OFF....IS IT SUPPOSED TO DO THAT?
 
When you pull the spout to set your timing, you're setting your base timing. Once you put the spout back in the Vac and the computer are setting your adjusted throttle advance timing. The timing going "up" once you've reinstalled the the spout is normal.

Don't think vacuum has anything to do with it on the mass air cars - the computer doesn't know what the vacuum level is.

Ummm... Vac, RPM, Flux Capacitance Flow, Warp signature.... Whatever that doo-hickey is that makes the little light thingy go up when you plug it back back in. Throttle position, RPM, and computer loop mode then isn't it?

If you remove the spout then your'e stuck at whatever base timing is set at.
 
My buddy and i were setting the timing on his 94 gt one day and forgot to put the spout back in when we went to take it for a little test....the first time he got on it, the rpms shot up to about 6.5k and we didnt go anywhere. It felt and sounded very strange. Im guessing the computer does not advance timing according to rpm when the spout isnt in.

You are correct. When you only give it a base timing of about 10* and leave the spout out you are always going to give it 10* no matter what rpm the engine is at. When the engine moves faster, 10* is not enough to make the engine go over lets say 3000rpm. That is why most people lock their timing in the high 20s -30s.
