Hi all can anyone help me solving this?
I’m working on a friend’s ‘94 GT
I did lots of work on it. Rebuilt the engine, with GT40 heads, pedestal roller rockers, headers, E303 cam, and GT40 upper lower intakes. Plus I converted from auto to 5 speed transmission.
I did all the transmission wiring conversion too. I’m using what supposed to be a 94 manual transmission ECU (No labels)
The car runs but had some hesitation. The fuel pressure is not consistent and I decided to replace the fuel pump with a Walbro 190 l/h.
The thing is that the timing is just stand still no advance whatsoever and yes the spout was plugged. So because of this I removed the spout and set a fixed timing of about 28 degrees.
Searching for answers to that no advance condition I just tested the spout wiring and I have continuity from the spout to the ignition control module (TFI) and from the spout to pin 36 of the ECU. The funny thing is that all wiring diagrams that I saw of the ignition control module (TFI) that show the spout to be on PIN number 5, my 90 GT has the spout wire is on pin 5 also. But this 94 has the spout wire on PIN number 6 and it seems unusual. So besides that “Anomaly” what else could be the cause of a non advancing timing??? The computer that my friend brought to me looks like it was in the garbage!!! What do I supposed to see coming from pin 36 of the ECU???

Please help !

Do you have the original computer?
checked for codes?

I just measured pin 36 right at the spout connector and it shows battery voltage.
So the computer is sending the signal but somewhere the circuit is open.
Could that be a faulty TFI???
And why the wire coming from the spout is at the top (On the ‘94 is at the bottom) and not one place before? As the pic at the bottom?

It is not the original computer.
I just scanned for codes. And it shows 327 which is not related to this issue.
Right now I have the spout removed and no error code for that and if I insert the spout the timing stays stand still regardless of rpm.
Before I rotated the distributor to a fixed timing I tried to run a KOER with the spout plugged in and it doesn’t do it because no timing adjustments by the computer.

It's possible, can you disconnect the box and run it?

Sorry for my late response,
I did that and the problem persists. I don’t know if a faulty TFI module or a faulty PIP cause this problem.
Can anyone verify this?

The PiP and TFI either work or they don't. They can be intermittent but they themselves do not control timing.

If you do not have a trouble code from the EEC during KOER for the SPOUT connector then I would suspect the EEC itself. The EEC is what controls advance.
