So yesterday my car started to run real crappy. And checked everything out, and came to the conclusion that my timing is off. So my friends and I get out a timing light and check it. Well seems that whoever owned the car before me put the band clamp for the hose on the lower portion of the water pump upside down. So it had rubed agains the balancer and ground down the degree marks on the edge of the balancer. I can still make oult the lines, but the numbers are gone. So If anyone knows what I can do that would be really great. Also where is the pointer located at??? And what would be a good degree, thanks so much

check your balancer first - if the elastomer looks cracked or it wobbles, get a new balancer and you can have numbers.

as i recall, most balancers have 2* increments for each line (10, 12, 14, etc). at 0, 10, 20* there is a longer line.

i use one of those silver markers (or white out) to paint the 0*, 10, and 14* marks. i would set it to 10* and try it. if the timing is way off, your balancer could have slipped (outer ring slides on the elastomer) - get a new one ASAP!!

the pointer is on the pass side. find the top of the balancer, and look to the pass side a little (around 10 o'clock or so, IIRC). you will see a little pointer. do make sure you pull the spout before checking timing. good luck.
