At idle, my timing jumps from 10* to 15*, back and forth. When i pull the sprout out the car dies. at about 1500 RPM the timing is at about 26*. Any suggestions? retard or advance?

Leave the spout in - with a timing light, set the timing around 20 degreess BTDC (advance it from where it's at), then pull the spout out, it should stay running. Now, with the spout out, set it at 10-14 degrees btdc, then plug your spout back in. The computer should add something on the order of 8-12 degrees of timing at idle so it's reading in the 18-26 btdc range at idle with the spout in.
