I'm putting a roller moter 5.0 in my car to replace the old 289. I'm going to be carbing the 5.0 and thus will be reusing alot of parts from the 289. I'm planning on using a mechanical fuel pump and timing cover off the 289. However I found when fitting the timing chain cover it was interfering with the fuel pump eccentric. I'm using a timing set for 5.0 roller motor. My question is there any difference between the timing sets for an electric fuel pump motor and a mechanical fuel pump motor?

there are in fact at least 3 different size fuel pump eccentrics, I found out there are 2 sizes that were 1 piece and 1 2-piece:

I believe I ended up going with a 2-piece to fit.

No difference in the timing sets, you just need the thinner eccentric. As coolblue stated there are at least three eccentrics out there. The solid one piece came in two thicknesses, the stamped steel 2 pc was the same thickness as the thinner of the two 1 pc. eccentrics.

Hmm that could be the problem. Right now I have the old one piece on there from the 289. I also have the two piece and haven't tried it. Is it just the inner and the outer race or is there any other components that go along together?

2pc is 2 pieces. just the stamped inner with the bent ear to engage the cam drive hole & the outer race the pump arm rides on.

You will also have to get a shorter cam gear dowel if you use the 2pc eccentric.

I have two sizes, one that came with the motor and a longer one I ordered to run the one piece. I think the stock dowel pin on the 5.0 is correct?

Yeah, you're all set. Use the 5.0 dowel.

Mine rubbed after i used a 5.0 timing set on my 68. Did a little fancy clearancing with a grinder (maybe 1/8"). It barely touched though. No problems since.

Cool well I put the 2 piece on today and put the short dowel pin in and clearance is good. Timing cover is on, now more assembly!
