I was playing with my FREE OBDII software on my $ 80 "craptop" today. Anyway , this software allows you to peek into the real-time timing, temps, air flow , etc. etc.

Wonder of wonders timing was all over the map ! Mostly dead nuts on 14 degrees, but as low as 13.56 degrees and as high as 22 degrees.

So, how exactly do these timing adjusters you guys have work ? I thought they were purely mechanical ?? How can they override the "main brain" ?? Thanks.

The Steeda timimg adjuster only adjusts the base timing, stock base is 10 degrees. What it does is trick the computer and therefore the OBDII readout, if you have your timing adjuster set at 14 degrees, then the timing that is really happening is 4 degrees more than whatever your OBDII readout is.

I got the BR-2 OBD II diagnostics interface. Cost me about $ 76 Made in the U.S.A

You connect the interface cable to the serial port on the laptop ( I have an old ThinkPad, but any will do) The other cable plugs into your OBDII connector under the dash

The software is FREE (Linux, DOS, Windows) I run the DOS version . You can see the temps, air flow, O2 sensor readings, MAF air flow, etc. etc
