I'm about to mess with my timing. Got a light finally! Couple dumb questions...

on the balancer, there are numbers like so:

(ATC) 30----20----10----0----10----20----30 (BTC)

To advance the timing, I want to be on the Before Top Center side...Correct? Since that would be on the up stroke. Or am I wrong? I'm somewhat new to this, and have a good amount of mechanic experience, but with 4 cylinder honda motors. Not to much with V8's. Just tryin to learn as I go. Even though this is my 3rd stang.

correct! make the 0 on the crank in white and mark your spot you want your timing to be at in white! make sure you pull the spout on the dist before you set your timing! once your done plug the spout back in! the spout in case you dont know is the little electrical wire hanging lose by the dist! there is a little tab or connector on it pull that out set your timing and then put it back in once your finished!

turn distributor clockwise to advance. It looks as though you have similar mods as mine. All cars are different I should note but mine runs like a raped ape at 18 degrees. I wouldnt suggest going any higher but hey, just make sure you dont get any detonation.

Thanks!

Any numbers with your setup "ShortThrow50" ? Have any problems with lifter tunnel (lower intake to block) gaskets leaking? I'm not sure what the guy I bought the car from used for gaskets...but I have a leak there, that I need fix. What gasket did you use for your lower intake? RTV or silicone with gasket?

nah bro. Im too damn lazy and dont feel like droppin more money right now into the car. Thats all it needs, a dyno session and a good tune to compliment the modifications. She raises hell though as it sits. Theres a vid of my car in my sig just after I finished the install. I didint go balls out in it though because I have yet to break in the top end kit and tranny. How about yourself? You have a dyno tune yet?

Not yet...In the spring! I'm gonna build the rear this winter and do some suspension mods. Then dyno tune it this coming spring I hope. Gotta be somewhere around 350-400 I would guess. I HOPE!!! I'm going to try around 16 degrees timing and go higher if shes not pinging.

this is the lower intake gasket i used it works great(click on link below) and has the rubber front and back gaskets. some gasket kits come with the cork rubber which i dont like...just line up intake gaskets with ports and tack glue down to head to keep gasket from moving when installing intake. install rubber front and back gaskets and place a quarter inch ball of Permatex High-Temp Red RTV Silicone where rubber gaskets meet intake gaskets front and back then ensure you torque intake down to proper torque in sequence...

proper torque sequence for the lower intake..

torque in 3 steps
Step 1 torque all bolts in sequence to 8 ft.lbs.
Step 2 torque all bolts in sequence to 16 ft. lbs.
Step 3 torque all bolts in sequence to 23-25 ft. lbs.
