matt, if this is in the wrong place, please move!


as a few of u no, i got pinched for tint... again... gotta go back to court friday, and i think itll be my final time there until i get a DD and am able to just drive the car every now and then... anyways my question is about the rear windshield... what is the best way to strip the tint off and clean... i did all the others rather easily... ripped off and cleaned what little glue was left with a razor blade and a soapy water...

so any help on the rear window would be ideal! my main concern isnt necessarily ripping it off, its cleaning it considering i no u cant use a blade

I'd also like to know. I ripped the tint that the previous owner had on there when I bought the car since it had turned purple and there is still some glue residue on the 1/4 windows and a little on the bottom of the back window that I can't seem to get off.

I don't know if it would be too harsh but ty 3M adhesive remover, it works great but it's a bit pricey. Good Luck

Walmart sells tint remover. Doesnt work to take tint off, but takes the glue right off.

Probably goof off or something similar will remove the adhesive. If you're planning on redoing the tint at all, make sure your defrost still works. I tried to tint my rear window once and got a little crease in the film, so I had to yank it off. Even with it still being pretty wet, it still took part of my defroster with it. Eventually, I'll pick up one of those kits to fix it.

And I'll toss this in Tech.

Goof off will work just fine. I used a bug and tar remover and it seemed to do the trick.

I have used WD40 to really soften it up, then from there you can probably scratch it off with the edge of a CC or something similar...

I bet that would work well...

reason im asking is because im trying not to mess up the rear defrosters much more than they already are...

Why not just pay the ticket and keep the tint? Around here tint tickets are only 50 bucks.

Might be because he'll have to pay the money again and again until he removes it. (Plus, he said he actually HAD to go to court. Sounds like the local PD are a-holes.)

I had a State Trooper tell me that he was going to run my drivers license and if my tint was still on the back window (p'up truck) when he got back, I'd be getting a ticket for it. I didn't fight it, even though it was "close to legal". I just ripped it off.

I don't need tint. Too much hassle. Period.

you hit it right on the head... the cops are sort of doing a little pay back ... the mayor of their city made them rip off the tint off their PERSONAL vehicles... and anyone caught with tint in the area gets an automatic summonce, no 5 day tag or nethin. and around here, tickets arent $50... the fine is about $250... so since this is my 2nd time goin to court in 2 months, i can only imagine what my fine will be.

ill eventually put it back on... but not anytime soon. and what sucks even worse is the cop that pulled me over, knows my family and didnt realize who i was til after the fact. wish i knew him before hand

That sucks. I've gotten 3 tint tickets over the years, would NEVER remove them because the city says so.
Do you have a pba card you can flash when you get stopped?

If the adhesive removers don't work(they should just fine),

but if you need some extra help try and find some PLASTIC 'razor' blades.

They should scrap off the glue w/o messing up the rear defroster.

The biggest thing is to take your time.

When removing the tint use a soapy solution to spray the area that's being removed and take it real slow. Put some towels down to keep from soakind the car.

Heat helps very much.Not sure what your weather is like.I used to work for a tint shop.When we stripped back windows we used pro 409 preaty common stuff.Cut open some black trash bags and use one for a drop cloth to catch the ****.soak down the window with the 409 and tape the other trash bag over the glass.Heat works good but the sun works better.It will soak in to the pores and eat at the adhesive.Once it starts to like is has a good haze to it pull the tint at an angle.Once removed spray the glass down again and use a plastic bondo spreader wraped in a paper towel with the direction of the defroster lines.The glue will come right off like green slime.Make sure you go over it very well the glue likes to hide on the defroster lines.If its not all gone you will find it when you get it retinted.
