Not when your car is your DD. Anything darker than that just gives you unwanted attention from the police, and a reason to pull you over.

Not necessarily. You can get away with 20% easily. My truck stands out pretty well and I haven't gotten in any trouble so far with my 5%. When I see cops, I just put the windows down. Takes about 2 seconds and saves me from getting in trouble.

Legal in Maryland is 35%, and thats what my front's will stay at. All I need is to go to dinner and have two beers and get pulled over for tint on the way home. Fiasco waiting to happen...

5% is absolutely pointless. You can't see out of it at all, and it doesn't do anything better than 20% does. If you want it that dark (which, IMO, looks retarded), why not just paint them black?

35% serves it's purpose very well: cuts down on the UV rays, heat, and other glare. However, I like the looks of the 20% better.

Also, nothing at all wrong with 50% on the windshield of a DD......

Just go to the eye doctor and say you get headaches coming home from work and you'd like to tint your side windows to alleviate the issue. Doctor's note, all's good.

Co-worker got pulled over three times in a year coming home from work with factory tint on his Mazda. BS IMHO but Plymouth, MN cops are dumb+bored. Only ever got hassled leaving work. Doctor's note put an end to that the fourth time he got pulled over.

My service truck for work is actually tinted haha. My work bought it used and I believe from florida. Around here you got to be screwing around pretty bad and asking for it.

Remember that his tint was 100% legal in our state, and factory-installed to boot. My post wasn't to help people avoid getting pulled over, it was to help avoid paying a tint ticket.

I reiterate - his tint was legal. You run the risk of getting pulled over for "illegal tint" every time you drive. Might as well be guilty of the crime, the way I see it. And if you get a note from your eye doctor, which is easy to do, you aren't even guilty of breaking the law.

I don't advocate blacked out windows, and really do not advocate tinting the windshield.

20% all the way around is how all my vehicles are. I have a good friend that owns a tint shop and I think I remember him telling me he likes to use something lighter than 50% on windshields so it's not a problem for night driving but still kills the glare from passing motorists

My dd ranger has 5% all around, I still have to get a strip dine on top and bottom of windshield winch is going 5% also. I dont find it hard to drive at all in the night. I even have a topper on my truck. I work nights with my truck driving all over town. You get use to it pretty fast. I dont even need to roll my windows down to back up. When my car gets redone its going 5%. windshield is not getting anything I think it will look funny when the top is down.

Doctors note is not easy to do. I've been to two eye doctors, both told me no. I have other friends who have tried to do the same and they had the same issue. Unless there is a medical diagnosis related to light sensitivity, they won't issue one. I did write to my local state congress women and asked them both to change it to 35%. In MN the tint installer actually can be fined for installing anything less than 50% tint on a vehicle. Therefore, there aren't many people here that do the installs. Anyone who wants 35% typically has to either get a Drs note or go to Wisconsin.

I went with 35% all around to keep it legal. I daily drive the car and don't need any extra attention. Around here, some of the state cruisers are equipped with sensors that can actually check your tint while you are driving. If we are doing this in Kansas now, you can bet it has been going on at the coasts for a while now. In fact, not two weeks after getting the tint installed, I was driving interstate (here in KS) and passed an officer on the side of the road. After I passed by, he took off and caught up to me quickly. He paced me for about a minute, just behind me, and then in my blind spot. I can only assume he was bored, checking my tint, and maybe looking for a seatbelt. He had nothing on me and took the next turn around. Another point for legal tint. I am certain it avoided at least one ticket and the humiliation of being parked on the side of the road.

I'm not saying, I'm just saying'. 50% is not difficult at all to see out of at night. Don't knock it till you've done it. When I first heard someone say "windshield tint", I did the usual gasp and point out how dumb that was. After seeing it myself, I've completely reversed my position on it.

Also, depending on how well you know your tinter, and how strict your state is on 'checking', you can have your tint 'removed', with proof via a receipt, and ticket dropped...

That's how it is here. I cruise past cops all the time with my 5% and have yet to get in any trouble. Not saying it can't/won't happen, but it's a risk I'm willing to take.
