I got my windows tinted and after the two weeks was up to roll the windows down ther were scratches all over the tint. Ford used a rough plastic seal on the inside instead of a felt or soft cloth. I went to a fabric store and glued a stip of felt to both seals. Looks like its going to work perfect. Going back on thursday to get windows redone. Has anyone else had this problem?

Had mine done a few weeks ago. I asked the installer about the rubber seal causing scratches. He said it should not be a problem. He said most probs with scratches are due to lower grade tint.

I had mine done by a top of the line tint shop (they do alot of magazine vehicles, have done some work for monster garage - Wedding chapel suv) and I got their best tint, and mine has the dreaded scratches. I still need to go back and talk to the owner about it to see if he has any suggestions

Tint scratches

The first thing my tint guy said when I took my car in was that there is no felt material on the inside window channel, just hard rubber. He says that for some reason, BMW, Mercedes and a few others have begun to ship their cars this way from the factory. I solved the problem by having him add some velco backed felt material to the rubber and to date have I no scratches. I have a feeling that some tinters will automatically do this as needed but if they don't you will end up with scratches. Go figure!

Tinting convertible back glass

Does anyone know of any problems with tinting the back glass on a convertible? Fixing to have my car tinted, figured I better ask the forum & see.

If you tint your rear window, dont ever use your rear window defroster. it will cause bubbles.

my tint is all scratched up. one of these days I will get around to take it in.
I have never heard of not using the rear defroster with tint. Is this when the tint is first installed or for good

This is news to me as well - I don't think I've had occasion to do it yet (going on 2 weeks since I had it tinted) but I'd like to know.

Also, I had mine tinted with Llumar 35% up front, 15% in back and sides. I have yet to see a scratch, but I've been meticulous about keeping the insides of the windows clean (I use Meguiars tint-safe wipes). I wipe mine down about once a week.

I've never heard of tint bubbling on rear windows using defroster. What brand of tint did you use?

PS - what is the Cali legal tint limit?

$35 is well worth it. nobody local knew about it, and even claimed to never have a problem with the new stangs. now i have to pay to re-tint the door glass. before i re-tint, i will install SOMETHING in there to prevent the scratches again.

I use my rear defroster with no problems, only had to wait a week for it to seal properly. Car will be 2 years in Nov.. My side windows are just now starting to show scratches, so I must have got good tint. When I need to have it re-done I'll ask about lining too.
