Tips for custom ram air

I have since changed that stupid edelbrock filter and put a 13" x 3" filter on the carb. How can I attach some ducts from the hood scoops to the carb? The basic idea that I have is that 2 ducts will go from the air filter to the scoops, but what will support/hold them in place? I could attach the ducts to the hood and have it so when i closed it they would line up with the filter. But I dont really wanna have bolts in my hood if you catch my drift.

What should I make my ducts out of? Maybe fab up some sheet metal for strength? Ive been sittin here thinkin on this for like 30min while typing this up and I think ive finaly got an idea that will work.

VVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEWWWWWWWWWWWW The attachment. Heres how itll be supported, and it will all be on the hood,under side of it anyway. The 2 ducts will each get 2 screws/rivits from the front. They will connect to a piece of sheet metal thats a circle that has some sort of weather stripping on the top and bottom of it. So when the hood closes theres a tight seal around the air filter. Then on the back side of that I will have 2 supports that will attach to the lip you see there on the back of the hood. That lip is about 4 inchs deep, so when i put my supports there they will have 4 inchs to hold onto and hopefully it will hold.

Get the idea? I dont know if this is a good idea or bad. The main problem i forsee is the on the scoops where i have to screw my ducts to to hold them there. When I cut those scoops out I will put a piece of metal around the outside of the hole as u will see in my attachments. The black part is the cutout of course and the white part is the metal.

I'd do something with fiberglass.

Your hood has the two openings on the front so you could make a chamber in the hood like this is. Then just have the hood seal on top of the air cleaner. I wouldn't do Rivets and screws because they can go through the hood. This was attached with a bead of bondo.

Wow, looks real clean man good job. Ive got no idea though how to make my hood as your saying. Could I do something like that on my own or would I need to take my hood somewhere?

He did not custom make that Red Ram-Air hood. Thats bought out of a catalog. Cervini's makes the hood that he showed you.

Well Im still stuck at square one. How to make this work. Any ideas guys? I know someone has done something like this before.

You can make a mold out of sheet metal. You don't have to make 2 seperate ducts from the scoops. Make a chamber from the scoops to the air cleaner, and then an opening to accept the air cleaner. After the metal is formed make a fiberglass replica. Look on google how to make fiberglass parts. I used the picture of my hood as an example of how the ram air was made fuctional. Take that idea and move the opening from where mine is to where your air cleaner is. Another easier way is get a kit from www.ramairbox.com Then use the flexible ducting to attach at the scoops.

Yes I could use that flex tubing but how would I mount it so it would lineup with the scoops and stay in the same place? I just don't think that will look to good.

TY for the info on the fiberglass. I just read up on it and decided I will most likly do that.
