Tips on removing over axle to Hpipe Pipe?

Trying to remove the pipe between my Hpipe that goes over the axle. I had the rear of the car jacked up a good 12-14" off the ground (jacked the body up, not the rearend) - I could not get the pipes off though. I twisted, turned, etc. The are loose and I can move them just about anywhere, but I cant clear the rearend or the driveshaft...or whatever else is back there. It just seemed like I didnt have the car up high enough, but I couldnt SAFELY get the car any higher. Any tips or tricks? Jack up the front and the rear? Jack up the rearend instead? or do I need to find a lift?

I jave changed out catbacks before, but never had problems like this one is giving me.

Have you removed the mufflers?
For as many times as I have dismembered my exhaust system, I've found that the only way to disconnect and remove the axle back pipes is to completely take out the mufflers. Otherwise the exhaust hangers will not slide far enough toward the rear to allow the axle back pipes to slide all the way out of the mid-pipe.

Oh and you'll be fine lifting it by the axle, I've never lifted it by the body. Just threw a jack under the differential and some jackstands under the axle. That allows a real good amount of space to crawl around in

I was curious.... where did you get the pipes that go over the axel to the stock H pipe? I want to buy some or have a shop make some for me and flowmaster doesnt sell them which is what my axel backs will be...

V*James...they came with my magnaflow kit.

I never could get the car high enough to get them off. I took it to an exhaust shop...$75 and they took everything off and put everything on. I couldnt beat that. Other places around here wanted $200+

i know it has been said before, but is there really that much of a difference between stock piping and any aftermarket pipe? i know the stock is 2.5 mandral stainless, and maybe it could be alil straighter, but is it worth the hassle? personaly i would just stick the mufflers to the stock pipe.

See my other thread about the axle back vs replacing the stock piping. We have a picture somewhere of the two pipes side by side. Several bends in the stocker and it is slightly crushed over the axle. The magnaflow pipe has very very few bends and maintains its shape through out.

You can feel a difference.

i gotta take a look at it, but i do see what your saying when i look at the few kits that have the overaxle pipe(mac, borla, and magnaflow) well good luck, i hope you get it figured out.

Does mac, borla, or magnaflow sell the pipes that go over the axle separate?

V8James - I know for a fact that Magnaflow does not. They told me that the pipes in their 15881 kit is designed specifically for the 15881 mufflers...and wont work with stock or their 15882 axle-back
