I'm looking to get new tires on my 94 Mustang GT. I've narrowed it down to a few different ones. Anybody have any experience or oipinions on the following tires? They will be a 245/50/16 and will be replacing Dunlop SP 5000's. I'm not looking for a tire to race with, just a good quality all round tire that rides nice and offers decent mileage.

these can be had for around $400.00 plus mounting and all are either W or Z rated

Cooper Zeon 2XS

Toyo Proxes 4

Sumitomo HTR+

Kumho Ecsta ASX

Have also looked at some cheaper tires, but don't know much about them. These can be had for around $300.00 plus mounting.

Federal SS 595 (Z rated)

Kumho Ecsta 211 (H rated)

Falken Zeix 512 (Z rated)

Any opinions or other suggestions to look at would be appreciated.

Falken's are supposedly pretty good, and my buddy had Fuldas on his 98 GT and they were pretty good all around.

I can't comment on any of those particular tires. I can tell you that I am happy with my Kumho tires. I got the Exsta Supra 712 (245/45/17), and they stick quite well. Ride fine, quiet.

So that's a thumbs up for the Kumho brand.

I personally have BFG KDW's 255-45-17's and love em! They are expensive though. Like $175 each + mounting & balancing. I did look @ the Nitto's 555's. They look real nice too. Price isn't too bad either, something like $140 each. Good luck!

Check out discount tires direct. I got Nitto 555 extreme's for $115 each in 245/45/17 (so yours would be cheaper) with no tax and free shipping. Tires are awesome. Sick looking tread pattern, great handling, and they hook up great off the line for street tires.

Good tires.... I loved them myself... great traction in the rain too. Mine wore kinda fast though.

I bought my AFS Bullitts off of ebay with tires on them and WOW.... I'm impressed and will try to find them again for my next set, They were a lot cheaper when adding them to the wheels.

ESSENZA 210 type R tires 255/45/17 - I'm going to try to find them a bit wider if I can for my 9 inch rims.

Don't get Falken's. I had Falken's on my car before I got my cobra R's and the rubber doesnt last long. I did one burnout and half the tread on my tires was already gone. Now I have the Kumho Ecsta Supra 712's (275/40/ZR17), and they still have tread on em after a year and a half of really hard driving. (I spin the tires ALOT)
