I have a '97 Cobra with the stock rims. They currently have 245/45/ZR17 tires on them. My question is: Will a 255/45/ZR17 tire fit on these rims without trouble? I had an alignment problem in the front and wore down the inside of the tires. I was going to rotate the rear tires to the front and put the 255's on the back because they are cheaper than the 245 width size.

You can go up to a 275/40/17 on the stock wheels

255's will fit. That is the widest I would run. 275's buldge over the lip a little ways.

Nittos run incredibly narrow.

Nittos do run narrow. If you go 275, do NOT buy Goodyears. They run wide and I could barely mount them on the 17X8 wheel myself. 17X9's with a 275 tire is simple.

Thanks for the info guys. Why would the 245's cost more? Because it's a more popular size?

That would be my guess. I can see how companies would manipulate price due to the higher demand.
