I need to get new tires for the first time and I'm looking for some advice. I have the stock 17" rims, and I'm wondering if I should go with 245 again, or can/should I put some wider tires on there? I can't go with drag radials because it's my daily driver in the northeast, but any suggestions on a good performing all-weather tire are appreciated.

We love the Bridgestone Potenza RE-750 and have them on both GTs - awesome wet or dry traction, zero noise, excellent wear. $165.00 at www.tirerack.com.
Our other option was the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 @ $183.00.
With tires, you truly get what you pay for. Check out both these tires at www.tirerack.com and look at the survey results on the overview link (for each tire). The tires are rated, on a scale of 1 to 10, for their wet traction, dry traction, hydro resistance, snow traction, cornering stability, steering response, ride comfort, noise comfort and tread wear. Compare these tires to others and you'll see why they cost a few bucks more...
I'd stay with the 245-45/17 on the 8" rim. You could put something a little wider in the back, but then your ability to rotate them just went out the window (and wider tires up front are just a pain). With good tires like these, you'll hook much better than with the OEM Goodyears anyway.

You Can go to a 255/45/17 all the way around but your choices on tires become limitied. I've looked at the continental Extreem Contacts before and they look like a good year round tire for the price in a 245/45/17.

Good all season tire. Use the same size all around, I used 255's/rear -245/front
and could not rotate them. 245's are a good choice for a daily rider,

I've got a set of these -- and if your car is also a cold-weather Pony, they're great in the snow too.

i've read that the bfg kdw2 have pretty bad tread wear, is this true?

I recommend the BFG KDWs. I have the sizes in my sig on stock 17x8 wheels, and am very happy.
With the monsoon season that we have here in sounth florida, I have to say I am very impressed with the wet traction.

I also bought mine from tirerack.

BFG gForce Sports are also excellent tires if you don't do any winter (snow/ice) weather driving. They grip and handle really well and have a cool looking tread pattern.

Lol... i'm taking them into winter with me they sometimes give ut during the rain when its cold... i guess traction control will have to stay on in the mornings now

either BFg KDW or KDW2s or Nitto NT555. i would go with whichever you can find cheaper. Discount Tire will price match even from places found on the web, so you can let them deal w/ shipping if you find the tires cheaper online.

I bought a pair of BF-Goodrich KDW2 t/a. I couldn't believe how far you could keep pushing the tires. If you do over do it, the tires will let you know and you back off the gas a bit and your back on track. Best set of tires I ever bought. I can keep up with my buddy's S4 (AWD) around corners. Tread wear after 6000 miles still looks good after cornering and 10 standstill burnouts since I got them. Buy them at tire rack for $150 a piece for 255/40/17 all around.

I bought Khumo Ectsa's. They've been great. I drive it about 720 miles every 2 weekends... Fiance lives 350 miles away.

But they're awesome rain, hot and cool running tires and my '03 was willing to accept the 40 seiries on the factory rear '02 Cobra rims.

It's a no brainer... just drive them as a tire. Drop the pressure when you need to, and don't change your factory rims.

It works for me anyway and they are less expensive than some of the other z rated tires.
